Beautiful architecture reminiscent of the glorious era of the Bundelas, the paintings are still visible in some parts especially of Raja Ram, Lord Krishna etc. Worth viewing the sheesh Mahal, diwane aam, diwane khaas, the bathing and sanitation areas. A guide is a absolute must and is recommended. Visited the sound and light show too which was okay.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 January 2024
- Garytan711New Delhi, India100 contributionsStunning Fort complex! The entire fort complex is stunning with breathtaking views. Not much to view from within but the ticket prices aren't much so might as well. Would suggest watching Sound & Light show before exploring the complex (show happens at night though!). Lot of walking and climbing steps up and down would be required. To add, Rajaram Mandir and Chatrubhuj Temple are amazing, and Lala Hardol Bagh is worth a watch. So is Shaheed smarak enroute from Jhansi to Orchha!Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 16 March 2024
- BangkokLoftYeovil, United Kingdom569 contributionsTicket price.Make no mistake, this fort is quite magnificent and well worth visiting at leisure. We have seen a range of Indian forts and this is amongst the best. There is however, a confusion on many web sites and blogs over ticket price for foreigners. They pretty well all tell you that the price is 250 rupees for the fort complex. This ticket has ceased to exist in the recent past and it is now 750 for the various buildings in the complex. They advertise the fact that the ticket also buys you entry to a range of other buildings and temples around the town …..but with the exception of the Chhatris on the river front the rest are all free anyway. Entry for Indians is about 50 rupees. We still think it was worth it to us but hopefully this post will clear up some confused and confusing web information.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 31 March 2024

Orchha, a small town near Jhansi has few attractions. One among them is the Orchha Fort which dates back to the period of Bundela Dynasty rule and Mughal invasion. The fort houses Raja Mahal, Shiva temple, Sheesh mahal, Jahangir Mahal and other small palaces. The beautiful architecture has names scribbled over it, an instant turn off for anyone. The beauty and ancient engineering in the fort is worth appreciating. You would on an average spend 3 hours here visiting the entire cluster which needs a big time repair. The light and sound show at night for 200Rs per person is not that impressive.

Orcha is a small town that is off the main tourist route. Tourism is important a to all of India and there are signs of renovation all around. Orcha Fort is a good example where the renovation goes on around you. It is quite fascinating to watch the workers on the scaffolding (is it metal supporting the bamboo or the other way) and women balancing materials on their heads as they go about their work.
This is a large Fort on the top of the hill so has commanding views. Some of the walls are in serious disrepair but there seemed to be no restriction on the areas you could explore (or health and safety). Be prepared for some steep climbs and descents to get the most of your visit. You must have a guide to understand the history, appreciate the fantastic architecture and get the most out of your visit.
We were at the fort for about 90 minutes.

There is parking near ticket counter as well as one can park near Ram Raja Temple parking and walk for 300 meters towards fort. The parking is Rs.30 per car. The entry ticket is Rs.10 per person (less than 15 years is free).
Note : Keep this ticket safe as you need to show it while entering Raja Mahal, Chattris and LaxmiNarayan Temple.
Once you enter the fort you will feel the vastness of it. There are courtyards and steps to reach at different level. One has to walk and climb it to see the views. Once you are done with main fort complex then you can visit Raja Mahal which is separate complex beside fort. You can see paintings on wall which are painted few hundred years ago. In Raja Mahal as well you need to climb stairs and walk in courtyard hence keep a bottle of water along with you. There are few other complex as well beside main fort.

Visited the erstwhile Orchha Fort from a day out from Jhansi to Orchha. Aside from the scenic surroundings of the town and the Ram Temple, this is one of the main attractions of Orchha. Built in the 16th to 17th century by the Bundela Rajputs of Orchha. All that’s left now are the fort and former palaces inside the fort. Overall, most of the structures are in good shape, but any ornate decorations have long gone, what you see are little more than the shells of the former buildings.
The most interesting structures are the Jahangir Mahal and Raja Mahal. The former has some pretty terraces of colonnades open to the courtyard, but screened to the interior. I think it’s permitted to climb all the way to the top of the roof (I did anyway) where there’s great views of the surrounding area, even better as Orchha is such a scenic place.

The mighty Orchha Fort was built by the Bundela Rajputs starting from the early 16th century by King Rudra Pratap Singh. The main palaces to visit here are Jahangir Mahal, Raja Mahal, Sheesh Mahal and Rai Praveen Mahal.
Jahangir Mahal: Culminating point of the evolution of Medieval, Indo and Islamic architecture. You can go to the top and have a beautiful view of Orchha city and Betwa river.
Raja Mahal: Divided into 2 wings, with 5 storeys on 3 sides and 4 storeys on 1 side.
Sheesh Mahal: Has been converted into a hotel.
Rai Praveen Mahal: Small palace with a large open space, nothing much to see here, can be avoided.
Useful Information:
1. Hiring a guide is recommended so as to understand the history of the fort in detail.
2. There is ample scope of parking.
3. The fort needs some restoration and maintenance.
4. Minimum 2 - 3 hours required to explore the entire fort complex.

The fort was built by Bundela king Rudra Pratap Singh in 1501 AD. Must visit lovely fort but not well maintained. Light and Sound show is awesome. The sunset view from fort is excellent. Hiring a guide is recommended as he /she can explain the history of the city, fort including chaturbhuj temple , Rai Parveen mahal etc.

This place is peaceful because it's a hidden gem and people aren't aware much about this place but it is a place where you can see the architecture and the carvings on ceiling. It even has 4pools inside for bathing purpose which were used by queen. if you visit jhansi or somewhere near that add this placein you bucket.

Orchha is a small town with immense potential. The fort, the palace, temples, betwa river all add to the charm of the place. If you are a history buff then you have come to the right place.
But it is very important to have a good guide to retell the stories. We were fortunate to have Mr Sanjay Yadav with us. His flamboyant style and humorous touch brought the bundelkhand kings and queens alive before us. He had a good grasp of the facts and is an amazing story teller. Besides, his photography skills are another plus point.
Orchha can be covered in 2-3 hours but we stayed over a night to truly absorb the essence of the place. Worth a stopover in your Madhya Pradesh journey.

Orchha is a wonderful, not much noticed hidden jewel in the middle of hillocks and situated next to a beautiful river.
This place if full of temples, forts, temples etc and one can wonder about the amazing architecture. This fort contains beautiful patios, blue tiled domes, beautiful balconies, frescoes and so much for the eyes.
It's one of the best places in India, I would say.

Hi,
I am planning to visit Orchha next week and require a couple of informations.
Is it possible to get advanced sightseeing tickets (for next day ) from the Orchha fort? If so how long the ticket counter remains open?
Thanks in advance!
Written 1 September 2018
You require only one ticket for all the monuments in Orachha, and the rush isn't much, just go to the fort complex and buy a ₹10 ticket per head. The monuments allow entry till 5pm.

Hi!
I'm planning for a small trip to Orchha, Madhya Pradesh in early September. Is it a preferable time as monsoon rain can possibly ruin all travel plans?
Thanks in advance.

Rain in September 1st week is a remote possibility. In my view the trip can be planned. It is a good place to see.

hi, we are planning to visit Orchha at the end of March, can anyone help me with the itenarary for the day tour, from where should I start and what I should see last.a sequence will help me to plan as I'm traveling with kids.
Written 21 February 2018
hello.
i would suggest you start your day early (8am will be fine) from the Jehangir palace and the fort situated in the same campus. It would take you 4 hours to complete the sight seeing here. Then have some refreshment in the MPTDC restaurant/hotel in the campus itself.
After lunch move to the chhatris on the shore of betwa. here you can go for river rafting also. After that visit laxmi temple. In the evening attend aarti at Ram mandir. But before aarti see the Light and sound show.

Hi,
We have made booking for Hotel Amar Mahal ,Orchestra in 2nd week of Sept.,2016.We will be travelling by train up to Jhanshi.
On enquary, the hotel is charging rs.800 for pickup for a distance of about 16km. which I find quite expensive .
If somebody suggest cheaper transport like autorikshaw or taxi.
And how much should we pay?
Kalumani
