Bhimbateka​ rock shelters, close to Bhopal a UNESCO Heritage site. Exhibit earliest traces of human life in Indian subcontinent. On amazing site worth the trip to Bhopal. It is about an hour away by road. A Unesco site, you can visit 15 caves with original paintings dating 2000 to 12000 years. Most of them are well preserved. What is also interesting is that the caves were inhabited more than a 100,000 years ago but painting started only 12000 years... More

Was an awesome experience travelling there. The rock paintings was exotic. I heard it is only part of the entire excavations. I dont know what might be store in the jungles.

Not too many people are aware of these caves and they are not very well promoted. However, once you get there, it is more than worth the effort. The historical place identified by Archeological Survey of India. The place have a history of the Stone age. U may still see the paintings on stone carved by the Stoneman...marvellous place!
