This is a temple which often gets missed when Hampi is mentioned, but its a hidden gem. Its worth a visit and with the huge expanse of market in front, one can only imagine its grandeur in old days. The carvings are excellent and spend some quality time. Notice a huge stone collection box opposite temple. Gives an indication to the richness of the temple. As the place is hardly crowded

The Balakrishna Temple is one of the best temples of the Hampi archeological complex. As soon as you enter the temple grounds, the tower just strikes you as an impressive work of art with numerous carvings depicting the many incarnations of Vishnu. The interiors of the temple also has a series of very striking colonnades where many of the columns are richly decorated too.
It’s a pity there is restoration work ongoing at this temple, but it’s still worth it for what you can see.

I was so impressed with this World Heritage Site. Exquisite temples and the layout of the site goes on forever. I was only there to see the highlights that could be seen in 5-6 hours with a personal guide. But I was left with memories of a breathtaking nature--- my imagination as an artist was inflamed by the stories the guide told us of the origins of this historical ruin. You must add it to your bucket list, especially if you are in India to see the Taj and Jaipur etc. No visit to India is complete without seeing Hampi.

The temple houses the icon of Balkrishna brought from Udayagiri (Odisha) by King Krishnadevaraya. It is dated to 1513 CE. The temple complex is built in Panchayatana style with two enclosures. with the sanctum, a vestibule, pillaried pavilions and halls. In addition, there is a kitchen and a store. The temple walls are carved with depictions of the Bhagvatha, the story of Lork Krishna's life and times. The pillars of the Mahamantapa has sculpted depictions of the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu. The main entrance leads out to a 500 m street bazaar and a sacred watre tank to the east

One of the best temples in Hampi,.. off course again with no idols as no temples in Hampi will have idols except Virupaksha.. The temple is grand and beautiful.. You can sit there for hours as its a quite place... They seem to be doing some restoration work these days... Beautiful carvings, and a very nice place to spend sometime.. doesnt take much time to roam around the temple but feels good to just sit and feel the place...

It’s a pity there is restoration work ongoing at this temple, but it’s still worth it for what you can see.
Situated opposite Krishna Bazaar, it is one the 4 most important bazaars of old Hampi along with bazaar at Vitthala temple, Virupaksha temple & Achyutaraya temple. Entrance is free.
The temple walls are carved with depictions of the Bhagwat Gita and the Puranik stories of the life of Lord Krishna. The most exquisite carving in limestone surmount the massive carved granite columns and lintels . The detailed images of victorious battles and fantastic beasts really are wonderful. This temple was an unexpected highlight of Hampi for me.
Apparently, there is a water tank is on the other side of the road but we did not go there.
Not an active temple, so no need to take your shoes off.

the Krishna temple is about a kilometer away from the Virupaksha temple, it is also known as the Balakrishna temple , the idol of child krishna is no longer in the sanctum. -it is in a chennai museum. The outer wall shows the ten avatars of the deity Vishnu. Most of the temple is in ruins and was being renovated,This temple was built likely for the royal ladies' - who were the followers of Vishnu .
