Vithala temple is the most extravagant architectural showpiece of Hampi. The highlight of Vithala temple is its impressive pillared halls and the stone chariot.

For visiting this temple you have to buy tickets and wait for the battery operated carts to take you to the temple. Please remember to preserve your tickets for your return journey or else you will have to walk back. Quite a walkable distance if you like walking. The temple is in ruins but certain parts are still well preserved... More

A mere human being cannot express this perfection of art. Be it the signature chariot of Hampi, or the Sangeet Mandap or even the relatively trivial Kitchen area. The chariot could still function with its wheels and brakes. This is the chariot of lord Vithhala and Garuda here is displayed in human form. Each pillar in the Sangeet Mandapa is... More

The area is too far to co re on foot so this is the better choice as the rickshaw drivers are all knowledgeable and know the ancient history of all the temples right up to the modern day temples that are still in daily use. A... More

This temple is the highlight of any Hampi trip. I enjoyed the trip and the stone chariot in the centre and was fascinated learning about the different frequencies/pitches of the musical columns. Our guide actually demonstrated the sounds on some columns in an adjacent structure to the main musical pillars on the site. Take a good guide with you to... More

Breathtaking example of Vijayanagara architecture, made me feel like I went back in time. I just sat there for a couple of hours sketching the temple until sunset! I think it helps to understand the history of this temple in order to appreciate its beauty. The city of Hampi, including Vithala temple, was built as the capital of the Vijayanagara... More
