On previous trips to Japan we had missed this area. A super experience with stunning vistas, fun activities and several peaceful hikes.. Best hint: head to the long red bridge out to one of the islands. There is a modest fee to cross and also...More

Less than 100 miles N. of Fukushima, but unaffected my tsunami - Matsushima Bay is full of beautiful small islands with trees resembling multiple bonsai displays. Cruises enjoyable - but on smaller boats watch for choppy water.

Don't miss Matsushima when you're in Sendai. Very easily accessed from Sendai station to Matsushima Coast station and take a Ferry Cruise (one hour) - that you can enjoy the beautiful view of different islands. And when you're back to the land, visit around the...More

The boat trip around the bay was in multiple languages and provided a good history and views of the many islands.

This is a great place to spend a day. Even from the beach there are lots of nice views, and a harbor cruise is a wonderful way to see some of the islands up close. Don't miss the oyster shacks, serving all-you-can-eat oysters broiled in...More
