Street of Facades is beside Al-Khazneh 'The Treasury". We saw a row of carved rock mansions, some reaching 15 metres high. These tombs were carved by the Nabataeans between the 1st century BC and the 2nd century AD. Some have extraordinary details even through they've suffered time and weather erosion. It is hard to imagine people in ancient times could make such an impessive structure and they are easy to access; we can explore them close up.  Happy travelling!Â

The Street of Facades is the name given to a row of monumental Nabatean tombs. The Facade is situated between the Treasury and the Siq, carved into the living rock. The Facade is quite complex. It was probably used for tombs of the Nabatean upper class. The Facade is topped by a Nabatean funerary monument.

The Street of Facades is just past the Treasury. One must admire the Nabateans for creating these beautiful structures. It's a nice place to take break and to get some shade. The Street of Facades is not spectacular, but it's worth a visit.

Some of our group stopped and turned around after going through the Siq and reaching the Treasury. There is so much more to see such as the Street of Facades. This is the name given to the row of monumental Nabataean tombs carved in the southern cliff face that lies past the Treasury.

The Street of Facades was farther into our exploration of Petra than the Treasury, but before we reached the Theatre. Each of the many facades is impressive on its own, although Petra is such a huge and impressive place that they also blend together. The overall impression is amazing, and if you have time to spend wandering a little more closely, they are definitely worth seeing up close.

Petra is one of the most unusual historical ruins on our planet. We enjoyed visiting it a lot. However, not every part of Petra is special. IMHO, the Street is one of the artefacts that you just pass by and say, "yeah, OK, looks good". Most likely, you'd see it anyway while walking around Petra for a few hours.

If you stand facing the Treasury Al-Khazneh and look to the right you will see another narrow, natural gorge which, we were told, was called the Outer Siq. This leads to the rest of the ruins of the Petra archaeological city. As you exit the Outer Siq the first thing you see is the Street of Facades. Looking like the large houses of some of the wealthy inhabitants of Petra they are, in fact, magnificent tombs which were probably built between the end of the first century BC and the first century AD. One special tomb is that numbered BD70, a freestanding, weathered tower rising up to nearly 50 feet. These are but a sample of the magnificent ruins which are still to be seen.

As I continued my walk from the Treasury to the Monastery, I noted these ancient constructions. Located against them are peddlers selling their souvenir stuffs for the tourists. Took several pictures of this atrraction.
Learned that this was the location of some ancient tombs.

A section of the route that passes in front of some tombs with huge facades carved into the rock. It starts immediately after you pass the Treasury and continues until the Theater. Along the route there are many Bedouins selling souvenirs.

The views were simply staggering in all directions. The history and details behind Petra including its evolution and the hub it became is simply amazing. Would encourage use of a private guide for more information and details.
