We went skiing, staying in Bansko below, in the Pirin Mountains for the February holidays. We were mixed abilities. The pistes are beautiful and all open apart from one on the opposite hill which hasn't been open since around 2009 due to risk of avalanche. We probably won't return for skiing as my son has now completed all the runs,... More

One of the places in Bulgaria, where you will be away from Bulgarian foolishness. The second highest peak in Bulgaria is maybe the most beautiful one. A day hike to the peak from Vihren hut is an adventure to enjoy. The total displacement is 1000m and could be climbed for about 3 - 3 1/2 hours. It's windy up there... More

What a lovely place walked to the lake them went down to the stream and had picnic lunch, beautiful place. We were lucky to have a local guide who got us a parking space right by the hut. Probably should have walked a bit further but very hot and so lovely just enjoyed relaxing by the waters

The parking lot is narrow and small. There are many crowds. There is a wonderful view from above. The air is very clean. Not very steep.

Vihren Hut can be reached in just over 1 hour from the top station of the gondola from Bansko. Stick to the yellow path heading directly up the valley. From the Hut there are s several we'll marked paths that lead you to the high hanging valleys and on to the ridges and summits of the surrounding peaks. If you... More

On weekends in Juli and August when the weather is fine it is very crowded. Only the early riser can drive up till the Vihren hut. After 9 o'clock you have to park 200 m the hut. If you have knee problems: do the round course clockwise - starting at the Vihrenhut. In the ascent you a stony path with... More

My boyfriend and I climbed to the peak of Vihren - a circular trail following the red mark. it took us 3 hours up, 3 hours down. It wasn't easy, but reaching to the top worth everything.

We drove up to the Vihrin hut by car. The road was in good condition. Near the end it gets quite narrow but if you are used to driving in the mountains, it is not a problem. Only parking is not too easy. The path to the top of the Vihren was very steep and adventurous, just how I like... More
