You don't have to have a four wheel drive but it would not hurt. We went the day after a rain and the road was solid though rough and traversed it in an Expedition without it. There was only one squishy place which we got...More

Hawksbill Crag requires a 2.8 to 3 mile roundtrip hike through trees, across creeks, and down one really steep bank. There are no level spots, so your ankles and calves will remind you the next day of the uphill and downhill walking on uneven terrain....More

Loved the hike and the views toward the end. Neat rock formations along the way. There are a few little streams we crossed over since there had been lots of rain. Seemed very busy for a Friday at late morning. Passed a group of people...More

Nice, fairly easy trail with great views the whole way. Breathtaking views at the Hawksbill Crag and other small crags nearby. It's also a pretty short drive from Fayetteville where I was staying with my friend.

We hiked this trail on a cloudy and misty Thursday about mid day- it was in the 50's most of the day. The hike out was mild- not easy and the hike back to the car was moderate. The dirt road going up to the...More

This was by far the best hike that I have ever been on. There are TWO Ways to get to this trail. One way is up a steep road. It is bumpy and ridged. Our low riding vehicle (Dodge Charger) did well going up the...More

Early morning is the best time to go as the trail gets busy -- very popular hike, but well worth your time!

Being in our early 60's and mid 50's and not in the best of shape, we were a bit hesitant about taking on a three mile hike but we were pleasantly surprised, yes there are challenging areas but it was well worth the effort. Once...More

Ok in regards to Hawksbill Crag (Whitaker Point) trail the hike is about 3 miles round trip. In regards to campgrounds at the trail head there are none, my suggestion for those looking to camp then Steel Creek campground or Kyles Landing would put you in locations that are very nice you can check with the staff at 877-444-677 or recreation.gov to setup reservations for camping. Another point for updates in regards to trails and for cabins to stay would be Buffalo Outdoor Center in Ponca, AR. In regards to getting to the trail head take Cave Mt. Road just 6 miles off of Hwy 21 South, this will take you to a parking area for the trailhead, this trail is beautiful in the spring or fall times. Hope this helps answer some of the questions above....and if you need more information give Buffalo Outdoor Center a call in Ponca, AR they have a lot to offer in float trip on the Buffalo and nice cabins to stay in also.....
