Stopped here on a day tour of Tlacolula Valley - had our own car made it easy, you might consider a guided tour as I would think local bus service while cheaper would be very time consuming. It only took half an hour to view.

About 20 kms from Oaxaca , the main visible site area consists of a partly restored ceremonial centre , excavations suggest it was constructed before Monte Alban . What you see today dates from the time of Christ until c. AD 350; there are some...More

This site is usually overlooked under the great offer for Monte Alban. We took a taxi directly here for a decent fee. Nice temples and walk around. There wasn't hardly anyone when we went so it was nicer.

This is an ancient, ie B.C., ruins, in the middle of a beautiful valley surrounded by mountains. While small, it is more impressive, possibly, than the huge site of Monte Alban. There is a large ball court, and a small section of sheltered, very low-relief...More

And we had it all to ourselves ( and our guide). One of the first Zapotec settlements. Astonishing view from the site. You might want to skip the crowds at Monte Alban.

I had wanted to visit Dainzu to see what I could learn about the site for a friend writing a book that involves aspects of the Olmec culture. After being taken by mistake to Yagul (worth the accidental trip!), I headed back toward Oaxaca City...More
