Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The bridge is currently closed due to social unrest in Myanmar. No check points and the visa office is not releasing any permit . The Burmese market is open if you decide to visit the area anyway. See my other review.

The bridge connecting Myanmar and Thailand. Nothing much here. But the bridge is very important for people from both country to cross daily either for business or personal matter.

Have crossed this bridge many times, as flying into Mae Sot saves me a nine plus hour road trip from Yangon to Myawaddi. However this time it was chaos. Recent conflict in the northern Shan had close the border crossing at Muse and there were long lines of truck either side of the border waiting to use the border crossing. The crossing from Thailand into Burma usually takes less that 30 mins. The car waits for you to go through Thai immigration then takes you across the friendship bridge to the Burmese immigration post and once through there straight to your hotel. This time the car was stranded on the Thai side and I had to walk across the bridge and then get a motorcycle taxi to the hotel. The taxi and my bags arrived more than 3 hours later. Going back was much smoother as we did it early in the morning.

This place was very interesting to visit and experience the goings on at the border. For someone who lives on an island country land borders are always fascinating.

There’s a lot going on around the bridge with the market being the main draw card for visitors.

The strip which is kind of “no man’s land” sells all sorts of “duty free” goods including cigarettes and alcohol. Separately there’s a large market with rows of shops selling numerous items including fabric and handicraft.

There is ample parking free of charge and you can spend a couple of hours browsing and grabbing some quality bargains.

On our free day we decided to go over the border into Myanmar . The bridge is very busy with huge trucks and streams of folk passing over. You have to leave your passport with the security guard, you get a token with a number on and pay about £15 . I found this disconcerting but all worked well and we had Sunday lunch of rice and kitchen in the riverside hotel in Myawaddy. We wondered around some of the streets and found a small temple . We got our passports back and then joined a longer queue to get back in to Thailand and got let back in. We did it for the experience and another stamp in our passports to show we had been in another country.

Unless you have the papers to go to Laos you don’t go on this bridge. Can drive or walk across as most of the Myanmar people do.

Not worth making a special visit, but if going to the market at the border or crossing over to Myanmar, you could stop for a quick photo.

There is nothing really to see here except the historic value of this historic crossing from Myanmar into Thailand. It is a very busy border crossing with a very interesting old world market. Lots of food for a cultural plunge. The world traveler at least needs to be there done that, even if just for a short visit.
