Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Found this market very competitive with prices and some will barta. Lots of variety of product, heaps of jewellery and gemstone, particularly from Myanmar. Rubies and Sapphire and Jade. Most stall holders were happy and approachable. Can also buy alcohol and cigarettes at good prices.

We were here several years ago and it was a bustling busy place.
Today this is a tired place with at least a third of the shops closed. Still some decent deals if you know what you are looking for, but the market lacks the excitement of a thriving market of the old days. I hope it comes back. May have a little to do with the Burmese Junta war against their people as the border was shut down as well.
Anyway, take you time going through and have lunch at the chinese place next door!

Place to killing your time. Everything charged higher if you look high potential.

We stopped in Mae Sot on our way to Chiangmai Mai. We were hoping to take opportunity to cross. The border with Myammar but it is currently closed so we visited the market. It is quite amazing how the market offers a pile of junk and some incredible jewelry and stones. You need to spend the entire day but you may find a treasure!

This is an interesting place, inside at the market is ok, basically same products different shop, but outside is not safe with People crossing the river illegaly.

We had a man follow us for a time & a Thai Border police was kind enough to earn us. Then we had some children follow us after that I personally could get my wife, 6-month old baby & father out of there quick enough.

It's just on the border to Myanmar and the border river Moei.
A lot of activities across the river! Burmese people are along thr riverbank, selling fresh crabs, Lobsters and dried fish.
A lot of duty free items like Whiskeys, cigarettes, to the same price as across the river in the casino duty free shop.
Next to the market is a big restaurant which sells Krapo Pla in many versions (Fish Maw)
The name of the restaurant is also"Krapo Pla"

Perhaps it's just me, but I did not enjoy going there. The place did not offer anything authentic or interesting. You might want to skip it if you are not a big fan of camping/army surplus, dried foods, plastic toys, questionable alcoholic drinks, or fresh river prawns.

Main purpose was to see the border crossing to Myanmar. Only a 3 mile pedal from our hotel. BTW MaeSot could REALLY use a bike rental shop!
Lots of truck traffic cued to cross.
No longer the ‘wid west’ of former years we were able t enjoy good coffe, chill by the river. Skimmed a small section of the market but nothing caught our attention.

All sorts of stuff for sale here including clothes, electronics, electrical, gems and souvenirs. Plenty of fake, contraband and smuggled items. I certainly wouldn’t buy any jewellery unless I was a gem expert.

It's a market. Slightly interesting with tribal costumes, good, and souvenirs. Stroll for 10-15 minutes after observing the activities in the border but that's about it.
