- Zolike78New Westminster, Canada313 contributionsBreathtaking mountainThis is the most beautiful mountain I have ever seen. I always wanted to get here, seen it in korean drama and was very impressed, but to see it first hand was amazing. The foliage was partial only, must be even more impressive with the full autumn colors, but it's still absolutely breathtaking. Took the cable car and visited Sinheungsa temple too. Crowds were endless but nothing you can do, this is highly popular destination. Grab a taxi to get there then walk the last portion, avoid the bus not to get squeezed like sardines.Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 25 October 2023
- Baoru H2 contributionsGreat retreat into the mountainsAmazing view from the top! We were not seasonal hikers, took us 3.5 hours on the way up and 2 hours back down. Bring walking sticks and wear knee guards! It was a great retreat into the mountains.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 28 October 2023
- orit a1 contributionWater, guide, driver and shoesWe are 4 people so we took a Sunny Seoul company trip with guide Grace Kim and driver Mr. Kim. Both of them took us from the hotel to an experiential day in a magical place. The long drive was accompanied by important and in-depth explanations that prepared us for a trip to the park. We had lunch with local food, went up the cable car to Mad Mountain and got an explanation about the lookout for the northern and southern readings. Grace did not spare and patiently explained every question. At the edge of the mountain we took spectacular photos. Below the mountain we visited the Buddha temple and drank health tea. The escort at the place is so important for understanding the park - don't give up! Come with walking shoes and plenty of water. It's worth the long trip and for us it would have been better in a car with guidance - highly recommended!!!Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 3 August 2024

The view was good. Place is pretty crowded and sadly the people working at the ticket booth did not respect the price listed. They will just charge everyone as adult including kids and they refuse to acknowledge the kids. Be careful and ask for the change when you are not paying exact amount, they will pretend that they do not need to return you the change. Management of the place need to be improved. Come early as parking is limited.

I visited Seoraksan National Park on the last week of October and it was the peak of autumn foliage in the mountain. I think I came just at the perfect time when leaves are still intact in the trees and exist in different vibrant vivid autumn colors. I woke up very early in the morning (around 5 AM) and used a tour taxi to get to the Seoraksan. It is recommended to visit the park as early as possible since heavy traffic is always expected during this season. I also used the cable car to get up to the top of the mountain and to see stunning views of the mountain. Since mountain trekking is an all-time favorite hobby of most Korean people, Seoraksan was a bit crowded when I visited. During the pandemic, I think it is still safe to travel in Korea because people observe strict social distancing measures and everyone is wearing protective masks. If you are planning to visit Seoraksan, make sure to plan it well to see other beautiful tourist spots such as the Ulsan Bawi, Biryongpokpo Falls, Oryeonpokpo Falls, and Towangseongpokpo Falls

The place is well visited by both tourists and locals. Unfortunately the cable ride to the top is suspended due to high winds. We settled to walk around the park and towards the main temple. There is also a huge Buddha on the way. The bridges both old and new made of stone and wood are sight to see with the mountains as a background. A lot of good photo opportunity.

seoraksan scenery in mid-december 2019, snow had started to fall the night before. so seoraksan look beautiful with a view of the effects of autumn and covered with snow. Where the temperature is not too extreme cold, it can be said that the temperature is very supportive for visitors to walk around the seoraksan.

A very beautiful place to visit! You can take very pretty pictures almost anywhere. There are different hikes available but it may get pretty cold during winter time. The scenery gets better and better as you advance up the trails.

SEP 2012 Very nice stay. My wife and I took our teenaged daughter and her best friend here for the weekend a couple of years ago and we loved it! We tried to do everything that was available at the location. The rooms are really nice and the food was also. We spent the whole weekend exploring and taking in the sights. It was a physically demanding to climb and walk so places but nothing that the average person couldn't do. Not sure if I would go in the middle of summer, we went in September and it was pretty warm still. I highly recommend taking a trip here

Didn't know what to expect, but this park is really worth to visit. We stayed at the Kensington Hotel around the corner, which was perfect. The park offers some nice hikes (even long ones). Although my son was a bit stressed (especially because of the open stairs) and didn't reach the top we had a great time and really enjoyed the hike and the views!

I recommend hiking with my family. Sometimes it was a little hard to walk, but the road is not rough. It is good to feel the beautiful nature. And the Buddha at the entrance is very grand. You can heal your mind with this peaceful atmosphere.

Is Seoraksan a good place to visit in winter say late January during Seollal time?
Written 24 November 2019
I just visited two days back, and it was freezing cold. The waterfall hike is still available but the one leading to the ulsanbawi rock is closed. The temple is still open for visits. You could still visit the bisendae (and the subsequent cave down the trail) but it’s a 10km journey, so you have to cater sufficient time for it. Take bus 7 or 7-1 from Sokcho and alight at the last stop where the Carpark is.

What kind of shoes are advisable for hiking Seoraksan? Regular nike sport shoes or high ankle hiking boots?
Written 15 September 2019
Hello,
Walking, running or hiking shoes would be best. There are areas where the terrain is more challenging.
I hope this helps

Is it possible to spend a night or 2 at Osaek(south entrance of Seorak san national park) and drive to the cable car and take a short hike there if we rent a car? I’m traveling with my 60s parents. Thank you

There is parking available near main enterence, we walked from there. It wasn’t to bad for me and I have arthritis in my knees.

We stayed three nights in Sokcho to make the most of our visit, and didn't regret it. There is plenty to see and do in the district!

Hi, do you need an organised tour to do this? can you go on your own? trails well labelled?
Written 29 May 2019
Hello,
No, you don’t need to use a tour. It is very well marked and maps are available.
Have fun, it is a beautiful park.

Hi, I'm planning to go to Seoraksan park on April 8th. According to the park's website most trails are closed in April, so I was surprised to read hikers reviews from April 2018. Will I be able to climb from Osaek to the Daecheongbong peak and down to the main entrance or will the trails closed? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.
Written 26 March 2019
It is unclear but some of the trails have been closed during this period because of forest fire risk.
We cannot give details of websites when answering questions but you could google KNPS (Korean National Park Service)
where there is a "contact" option at the bottom of the page so try and ask for more details

Is there normally a lot of snow left last week of March, first week of April? How cold is it? Interested in short hike and taking the cable car. Will be Coming from Seoul -hoping to make this a 2 day trip with Sokcho.
Written 5 February 2019
No. Almost no snow in the last week of March. The weather is warm in the afternoon but a little bit cold in the night. 16 to 6 Celcius degrees.
Written 20 March 2019
Planning to visit end of March. Saw on their website park is closed March - May. What trails are normally closed during this time?
Written 17 January 2019
High areas for mountain climbing.
If you are planning to visit typical tourist courses like Ulsanbawi, Gwongeumseong, Baekdamsa or Towangseong, it's fine.

As a reference point....I've done Hallasan and Bukhansan in the past. I'm planning to hike to Daecheongbong Peak starting on Oseak trail and heading through Cheonbuldong valley or Dragon ridge to end at Seorak as a one day hike in end of March 2019. Advice or tips please. What's the best option if using a car? Park on one end and take taxi back to car? Haven't decided where to stay yet so that is not a factor...
Written 16 January 2019
Hi.
Having a car at one end and catching a taxi is a good idea. Better still if you have two cars and drop one off. Will be a great trip be loveky to camp in the bush whilst there. Have fun

Hi I intend to visit Seoraksan National Park and stay nearby for one to two nights at the end of Feb 2019. Possible to hike during this deep winter period? How far is it to travel from Seoul and where can I get a good 4 to 5 star resort near the park?
Written 6 January 2019
I am not sure about hiking in winter & suggest you visit the Seoraksan website to confirm. As for the nearest accommodation, that would be the Kensington Stars Hotel which is only a 5-minute walk away. Do stay in the western style room. As for travel from Seoul, take the express bus from the Express Bus Terminal in Gangnam or the Dingbu Bus Terminal. The bus ride is just under 3 hours with only 1 stop for toilet break. At the Sokcho bus terminal, take a cab to the hotel - do avoid peak travel hours as the toad to the hotel and Seoraksan is the same so arrive in the late afternoon would be best. Enjoy your trip!
