We visited Seoraksan area in early September 2017, together with our in-laws, and their relatives. Sokcho city is the gateway to Seoraksan National Park, and it is located by the east coast sea, there are several ports here. We stopped at Dongmyeong port (덩명포트 ). The port is famous for its red crabs and snow crabs. That's why there are so many restaurants at the port. Along the way to the market, many stalls sell fried seafood ( squid, tempura, shrimps, fish), and the owner always offer sample food to almost everybody who passed by, and also there are many street peddings selling various seafoods. At the market, many stalls selling live seafood, very fresh, not smelly, clean environment; the competition between them to attract buyers could be seen.
We bought flatfish(광어 ), squid (오징어 ), rockfish(우럭 ), gray mullet (숭어 ) and sea urchin roe (성게알 ). The vendor’s owner made us the sashimi and we ate at level 2, the big one-hall restaurant, you can sit like western table, or Korean style. Beside the sashimi you can also order food at level two or ask the seafood you bought to be cooked at level 2. The fried seafood was also good, but a bit oily. Soju was the friend of the sashimis. Nice experience.

Choose your seafood from one of the vendors on first level , you can order an assortment of live fish , crabs etc and they will clean it, on the spot for you. Enjoy the fresh sashimi thereafter on the 2nd level, you can also add on a hotpot stew. I've not tried something as fresh as this.. right out of the tank for you!!

Lovely local port to see when walking along the area. Lots of seafood restaurants, though nothing too suitable for solo travelers to eat. I enjoyed taking photos there though.

Dongmyeong Port is located at the eastern end of downtown Sokcho, and besides walking along the port walls it is well worth taking a quick look at the live seafood for sale. There are many businessman with live fish, shells etc in tanks where locals come to buy. There are also several small eateries there that sell seafood meals at a reasonable price. Walk along the seawall to the red lighthouse and sit down and relax, admiring the view.

We had seafood dinner for 2 subsequent nights. Recommended assortment of grilled fishes and sashimi. It won’t go wrong to go to a crowded restaurant (provided there are seats).

Come by to check out plenty of fresh seafood vendors and some fried street food. Some of the restaurants let you pick out your animals before they kill and prepare them for you.

Except for the terribly hot weather back then, it was a nice visit to the port and the surounding area - the walk to the lighthouse also!
