The Submarine is from a 1996 incursion near its current home. It ran a ground the crew of 25 were all caught except for 1 member. The battle ship is a retired South Korean fleet. The signs are pretty good and tell a good story of the Korean war. There is a museum up the hill from that has some rare Korean war photos and tells the history of the fighting in the area. There is a good wikipedia page on the incident.
This is very near the Jumunjin Port and light house, ( less than 3 km) . The craggy coast line is lovely and there are plenty of places to walk along the beach or have food. There is a train from Donghae city that runs along the coast line most of the trip, with stunning view all along the way. There a lots of hotels and b&b in the village so for a little romance consider stay a night here. The beach is good.

We came on a day trip from Gangneung using the bus. It took about 30minutes to get here. We got off at the Unification Park (3000KRW) with the boat, explored around there and then walked up to the part with the planes and memorials. It was interesting to see inside a recently retired (1999) Korean naval ship and to see a inside a North Korean submarine. The planes on display in the other park were also quite interesting. If you have an interest in naval/Air Force memorabilia etc then this is definitely worth a visit for you. Otherwise it could probably be given a miss unless you have some free time and nothing else to do. It wasn’t unenjoyable but I’m not sure I would bother going if I’d known what was on offer.

Had an enjoyable visit and agree with previous reviews, Used the local bus from Gangneung that run hourly. Very little English so it was a rather quick tour over the site for us. It is somewhat isolated from the pavilion and outdoor exhibition area. OK if you have your own transport.Needs some sort of shuttle between the two sites {even perhaps Jeondongin Beach}, upgrade the language on the displays and some attention to the decay.

No longer open to tourists. You can see the submarine from the road but all other items from other reviews and photos appear to be gone. Not sure if they have relocated or if they will be returned.

The warship and the submarine in the park show a glimps of tensions between north and south Korea. To visit the submarine you grab a helmet to avoid bumping your head. Being 1.96 m I.m glad I used it. The warship is ok but not spectacular. Keep in mind that there is no taxistand. It means go back to the village by bus.

Picked a beautiful day for this little trip down the coast. Got dropped off by taxi at the top park with a collection of planes and armoured ground vehicles. It was fun climbing into the tanks and personal vehicles. Then we strolled the 900m or is along the road to the North Korean sub and old US warship.

We were followed by a local “guide” who didn’t really say anything and it felt a bit weird. The stuff inside the warship wasn’t as impressive as the cranes getting the thing out of the water. More should be made of the part of the story in my opinion.

This was a really great outing. There is a lot to see and a lot of history. South Korea has been through a lot and this is one place where you read about the country's history and victories.

The park actually is split into several different parks. We went to the one with the ship and the submarine which was nice. The ship has rooms and displays set up. It only takes about a hour to go see everything.

If you are driving and want to see the other parks, parking is 6,000 won. Make sure you get the little parking slip as it will allow you to park at the different parks without having to repay.

Great opportunity to go inside a real North Korean sub, apparently there was 25 North Korean soldiers in there when it was discovered in south korean waters in 1996. I don't know where they would fit 5, not to mention 25!

Leave the civilian line and embark on a journey in the Militarized Zone. In your own car experience the 6 lane highways built for 1 reason
And it is not tourist traffic! Stand just 2.8 kilometers from the North and spend 50cents looking through powerful binoculars at the neigbours. You can see the troops hiding in the mountains. Unlike Seoul DMZ this is the farthest point north in ROK.
It is all business. But just amazing including the beautiful beaches that no man can walk along.
Once in a lifetime experience. Up there with Taj Mahal.
