Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Often overlooked by the claustrophobic and well documented Manuha. Quite small but amazing murals and a beautiful 3 headed Shiva. Tour guides will tell you that this was the actual prison when Manuha was imprisoned - but there is no documents to support this.

This is the only temple in Bagan with carvings of Hindu gods. It is also the only temple that I know where Shiva and Brahma are in the same temple. The Shiva Lingam is not there anymore (due to past earthquakes), but the stone carvings of Buddha remain. The stone carvings are stunning.

We visited in the afternoon and found examples of fine sandstone carvings both outside and inside. In particular, there were some wonderful windows with 30 holes cut to admit light to the interior. The inside is dark and sometimes you have to take a flash picture of something to see the details of what is there..

Not beautiful like most temples in Myanmar, but this temple is old & full of Stone Carvings, which are very nice. As it has a lot of history involved, make sure to get a Guide or Guidebook to get the actual story.
Good for people interested in History & Archaeology.

just next to the Manuha Paya, Nanpaya was much smaller than I though & it was under construction.

It has Brahma carving on the wall inside and no stupa of Buddha.A little temple that has four pillars with carvings inside ,it is very interesting artist style and very cool inside even outside of hot temperature in the summer season. It is allowed to photo taking inside of it.

Nanpaya is located in Mynkaba. Together with the temples of Nagayon, Manuha, Abeyadana, and Gubgyakgyi share a fascinating history, although each temple has its own personality. While Nagayon, Abeyadana, and Gubyakgyi are famous because of their murals and frescoes restored by the UNESCO, and Manuha is famous because of the confined and impressive Buddhas, Nanpaya is unique because of the stone work and sculptures. It has 4 pillars with Indian motifs. One of them depicts Brahma holding lotus flowers. Very delicate.
Nanpaya was perhaps, the house, some believe the prison, of king Manuha while imprisoned in Mynkaba by King Kyanzitta. It has hamsa birds that were royal mon representations.
Like the other temples at the Mynkaba area, it is important to take a flashlight to appreciate the details.

The temple per-se is not as attractive as other Bagan Pagodas. But it has 2 interesting features. Firstly, historical: this is where King Manuha of Thaton, enemy of Bagan King Anawrahta was said to be held in solitary confinement. Secondly, architectural: there are many Hindu elements here although it is a Buddhist temple --- for example the bas-relief of the Hindu God creation (Bramha) or the Hindu symbols of purity (Hamsas or Swans). Also look for the bas-relief of the "Vegetarian Ogre". The lighting is poor inside so you need to observe carefully. If you are a history buff and want to find Indian connections to Burmese history --- go for it!

This is a very different Bagan experience, rather than lots of Buddha statues it had some wonderful sandstone carvings. These are very intricate and well worth seeing.
The temple has been damaged in an earthquake, so you can only go part way; however you can still see most of the beautiful carvings.

What set this pagoda apart is its stone carving. The pagoda itself is small and not much to see, but rather than mural paintings, it has stone carvings on the wall. If you have time, take a look.
