This is well worth going to if you are in Taiyuan, in a nice foresty area with little streams to walk alongside. You can see the Buddha from quite a way away, and it is a good feeling to finally get up to it, having...More

I visited the buddha a couple of years ago, not in 2015, which is offered by system. There were a large number of visitors then. The green mountain, clean stream, natural scenes made me wanna go there again.

There are many amazing holy sites in China- all flourishing without the need for prompting from Formal religion- mercifully absent from the lives of the people. Menshang Mountain Budda in Taiyuan tops the list for it's unique location- just sit gaze, and wonder- "How did...More

This Buddha is over 1400 years old and it is located in a great forest with a nice walk through the trees and beside streams . It is a fantastic monument and if you are on Taiyuan well worth the visit .

Of all the sights I saw in China, this one was the most moving and fascinating. If you are near, make the time to trek to the Mengshan Buddha. You won't be disappointed.

I will be traveling to Taiyuan some time in June to adopt my 3 years old daughter. I wanted to plan one "outdoor" day for walking around/cultural sites and this looks like a good option due to the comments about the fresh air.... How close is this site to Taiyuan City central? I will be staying at the Wanda Vista and when I look this place up on Google Maps it is obviously inaccurate.. Any help would be much appreciated!
