Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Another amazing history site back to 3000 years more ago. Building in this park are thousand years old. A spring fountain still working even after several thousand years.

A 3-4 hour outing at the least. The temple complex is surrounded by a beautiful park that you must take the time to appreciate. Entrance into the park is free. The Temple complex is huge and well restored. The are many alcoves leading off to different places of worship. I found the many ancient trees fascinating. We spotted a 3000 year old tree right next to the main temple. It was great to be able to touch something living that was so old. The temple is beautifully decorated and the grounds so peaceful. A worthwhile attraction.

Jinci Temple is located here as well as a range of historical buildings. The historical buildings in the park are well preserved.

I had decided that if I do not have anyone to show how to find places I would just do so on my own. Fortunately I have enough Mandarin, even in backwoods Taiyuan - if a city of 4 million can be backwoods - to get around. This is how I found myself at, since expropriated, Jinci Hotel and then Jinci Park right next door.
Going in the dead of winter has its advantages, very few people, there were little tour groups - maximum 3-4 people in each, and everyone tried to avoid each other. This gave an overall sense of a recent exodus with only the hardy souls, or fools, remaining to oversee the temples.
Within the park are several buildings, no idea how many, some from as far back as 800 or 900 AD according to the written signs. There are signs in Chinese and English - very helpful. Unfortunately all the doors seemed to be locked which meant peering in between cracks or standing on my toes to peer inside windows. Not that there was much to see.
I was most impressed with the dragons wrapped around the posts of the main temple - they are impressive! Winding, breathtaking, frozen in mid-movement - absolutely stunning. They are supposedly the only ones of this kind now in existence. Thank goodness the temples and the province were too far and too cold to be completely demolished during the cultural revolution.
The temples are very much like any others found in China. Except these were sadder. The Painted Ladies, these are the highlight, are covered in soot and grime. The signs that say to protect the artifacts need to be pointed towards the curators - if there are any. The elegant colours are faded, but some of the carvings are exquisite in an archaic manner.
The ancient cypress trees are interesting - I wish there had been an English translation about them - I had to listen to the Chinese tour guide of one group so only caught some of it. No matter, you can see how they skim the roofs - just waiting for that one daring big wind after all these centuries.
There are some minor cave temples - worth the stairs just for the view.
Overall, go if you have the time. Do take a camera - I forgot mine so only had my notebook with me for taking notes to0 be transcribed to my Blog. Of course, it helps to be interested in such things! Taxi will set you back significantly because getting back to the city is complicated.

This park is more than 1500 years old. Famous park visited by royalties of various dynasties and source of inspiration for many great poets. Amazing carvings of dragons on the main shrine dedicated to the Mother of one of the founding ancient dynasties. Located within the park is one of the 19 pagodas in China which houses the Buddha's relic.

The park is a mix of lakes, gardens, Temples and people enjoying themselves. Some really excellent photo opportunities. Our visit coincided with summer holidays so the park was quite crowded. Spring or Autumn would be the ideal time to visit.

The place reviewed here is basically the same as Jinsi Temple so you can go there to read about it. Tripadvisor should merge all these duplicate posts.
This place is a mandatory place to visit if you are into Chinese History. 1500 years old.

I visted it a couple of years ago, not in 2015, but the system only offers the year of 2015. I reached there when it is still warm. The green meadow and historical architecture were really unforgettable.

We went here to get a moment for our new granddaughter for her heritage and was happy to wander into a museum to learn some history from the area.
