What draws people to this museum is undoubtedly the peach pit floor in the kitchen, but there is so much more to see. And the director is an absolute delight! She is well-informed, super friendly, and loves talking to visitors. The house is perfectly furnished in period pieces, and the kitchen with all its gadgets is a hoot. Don't miss... More

This is a much smaller museum than Reinet House, but easily accessible through the grounds of Reinet House. It is a pity that quite a few rooms have been earmarked for admin purposes - this reduces the feeling of the museum being a "home". Be sure to see the peach- pit floor in the kitchen, as well as the stone... More

This place had the most amazing display of rifles that we had ever seen!! The extensive presentation of photos was extremely interesting along with the photographic equipment that was used to capture the faces and places of the past.

Great to see our history being preserved and presented in a well laid out manner. It was interesting to see the photographs and recognise so many surnames of the pioneers of the Eastern Cape.

It is an interesting museum but less well known is the library which can be used for history or genealogical research

Small but interesting. Another house similar to Reinett House but less time needs to be spent here, together with the Military Museum all three. Can be seen in a morning.

The house was built between 1806 and 1821. In 1912 Herbert Urquhart, the mayor of the town from 1915 to 1936, bought the house. Inside the museum is a beautiful collection of Victorian furniture. Taking photos it was not allowed inside the museum. It took us less than 30 minutes to walk through the museum. Buy a combined ticket for... More
