The sixth oldest church building in South Africa

In the Cape's third oldest town, this collection of 20th century South African art is quite remarkable, and for connoisseurs of art a must-see. We absolutely loved it.

This gives you an appreciation of the rich history of Graaf Reinet. The stories of the struggles and the forced removals are really moving. There are several different rooms dedicated to such subjects as geology, life in general and the Boer war . A must place to visit.

The Graaf-Reinert Museum is currently closed for renovations, so the choices of other museums is a bit thin. This did have a fine display on the evils of fracking and some fabulous cave art, but otherwise it's not very impressive.

I was in the area on a hunting trip, and we spent a few hours in town one afternoon, so we stopped into the museum. The exhibits were interesting and well laid out. It was nice to see some of the history of the area.

This stunning building in Church St, just a few doors down from the Info Centre, houses a variety of different collections. I spent an interesting time here, appreciating the artifacts on display and reading up about Robert Sobukwe. I found the fossil collection particularly intriguing as there are several excellent examples of the fern Glossopteris ( in its more compressed... More

I thoroughly enjoyed visiting this museums. It has a nice collection of fossils, stone age tools and pictures of rock art. Then there's the Robert Sobukwe exhibit. And don't miss the anti-fracking display.

The Old Library is the first Museum to visit in Graaf Reinet and the place to buy a ticket for the others. Good idea of the Tourism as you can then get a discount for the others and choose which one of interest to go to. Old Library had some interesting items on display, not fantastic but a good starting... More

As an historian of Africa this place was amazing. Loads of information and the best part was the library at the back with hundred of old books on Africa. I could have set up a cot and stayed there for a week. Well worth the visit!! Loved it!!

From the first plants and animals to have wandered the Karoo plains to the more recent settlement of Graaf Reniet, this museum provides a fascinating trip into the mists of time. The fossils and archaeology are well presented. The history of the people and politics of the region over the past 250 years are also well presented, and in a... More

Another Graaff-Reinet gem. The fossils were very interesting but for me the exhibition on Robert Sobukwe, a son of the town, was the star of the museum. Well worth a visit.
