It is positioned almost at the centre of Kano City, slightly away from Emir's Palace and the Kano Central mosque. It dated centuries ago with some parts built with mud. The scents of incense, fresh fruit meet you at the Kurmi market which has many entrances and exits. Dusty, confusing full of everything you need and more. But the most interesting thing is the market's history..it was part of the slave trade. Do your research before going to this market and go with someone from Kano who can show you... More

This is a very huge market and if you like bargain and see day to day life...this is the pllce to go..If you are from any western countries that like malls and are fussy..please don't go here ..u probably won't like it!!

Excellent place to purchase locally woven materials, dyed materials, sculptures (mostly animals like giraffe, elephants, ducks etc), carved stones, silver jewelries, beaded jewelries, jewelry box, leather (cow hide mostly - but genuine leather all the same) shoes, bags, wallets, stuffed animals, local musical instruments (best used for decorations), ostrich feathered shoes, bags and fans... lots of goodies.
