- MaryAnnDorsetDorchester, United Kingdom359 contributionsWalking SafariWe had the boat trip on our safari itinerary and not realising we could visit the island. At the last minute we decided we would enjoy a walk around to stretch our legs and enjoy the animals. During the boat trip we saw lots of hippos, water buck and plenty of birds, including a Fish Eagle. When we landed on the Island our guide was Issac. We were very lucky as Issac was not only a great wealth of information but also very handy with a phone and took some brilliant photos and videos of us with the animals. To see the zebra, giraffes, impalas, wildebeest so close was fantastic, and the added thrill of baby zebra and giraffes made it incredibly special. A very nice couple of hours spent on Lake Naivasha.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 September 2023
- LovesPhotoOpsHoover, Alabama1,133 contributionsSee wildlife from on footWe were with a tour group and had taken a lake tour with Lake Naivasha Crescent Camp. Our jon boats pulled up on the shore of Crescent Island, which is a privately owned game sanctuary. There was no dock there so we had to scramble out of the boats, but we were met by guides who helped us disembark and led our group around the island. There are no predators on the island, so they allow visitors to walk among the wildlife on foot (although of course don’t get too close!). We saw impala; defassa waterbuck; Burchell's zebra (subspecies of plains zebra); blue wildebeest; crowned plover; Maasai giraffe. Everybody was getting their photos made with grazing animals behind them. We spent about an hour and a half on the island.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 15 November 2023
- Zoé J23 contributionsAmazingWe didnot know what to expect and it was a great surprise. We saw some zebras and girafes (and a new born) less than 10 meters away from us. We also saw some antelopes, eagles and monkeys. The island is nice and the guide took his time to show us lots of stuffs and for us to take pictures. Highly recommand this walk !Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 March 2024
- Rachel Jesudas J4 contributionsGreat visit to crescent islandIt was lovely trip out on the island. Our guide Ryan was excellent. He was very attentive and gave us a lot of information and we got to see alot of the wildlife. We saw giraffes, water bucks, osterich, zebras, gazelles, impalas, hippos, wilder beast and so much more. Beautiful birds and great views of the lake and the mountains. I would definitely recommend the visit.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 March 2024
- Vijaya SDubai, United Arab Emirates239 contributionsMesmerizing Crescent IslandCrescent Island…symbolic to the Island that is huge with flora, fauna and a place for Omnivorous animals that have harmony & peace to stay together. We reached this place by a speed boat. Breathtaking view of the Navaisha lake surrounded by mountains. We reached this place and met Fred who was our guide to this place. He took us around the island to show Giraffe family, Antelopes, Zebra and many such animals freely moving around. We took several pictures close to these animals. While our return ride was very nice too…as we did bird watching. Hippos relaxing in water. Overall the experience was too good.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 15 June 2024
- oiramsqDubai, United Arab Emirates202 contributionsA surreal and Serenely Beautiful Place to See Wildlife UP CLOSE! (as in really really close!)Kelvin at Rustic Nature Tours basically insisted we go to Crescent Island while touring Lake Naivasha. Truth be told, I really wanted a nap, but we booked it anyway - so I went with my family. After a boat ride to the jetty you are greeted by a tour guide who takes you on foot through the island reserve. Pretty much first thing as you walk up the hill you encounter water deer... and then zebras. As you walk you realize that the animals are not too fussed to have you among them and can get very, very close. How close? Well, we came within 2-3 feet of the giraffes... and the zebras and water deer. We actually touched the ostriches! This was an amazing 60-90 minute walking tour and well worth the footsteps! (I'm glad I missed my nap!)Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 6 August 2024
- TiffChelmsford, United Kingdom7 contributionsPretty place to walk close to animalsWe caught a boat to this island. We weren’t too sure if it would be worthwhile as it was on our last day before heading home. However, after catching a boat to then get off on a small jetty (made up of many concrete bags), we were greeted by a very friendly and informative guide who walked us around the island for about one and a half hours. We saw many animals and birds, some up close too, giraffe, zebra, buffalo, owls. We were glad we did it and it was a very pretty walk.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 16 August 2024
- Lian Tiong GSubang Jaya, Malaysia4,397 contributionsA wonderful experienceWe took a short boat ride to Naivasha’s Crescent Island Game Park. The visit to the island game park was an unique and memorable experience. A breathtaking scenery with views across the beautiful lake and watching on the land animals grazing. The island is home to a wide range of wildlife in their natural habitat. It is an experience to walk in the wild nearby the wild animals and have photo taking with them.Visited August 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 19 August 2024

Crescent Island is totally worth the visit. Lots of animals on a small patch of land, you literally walk among giraffes. Amazing experience.
If you decide to do Hell’s Gate (less good than the Crescent island), don’t waste time doing it by bike (around 3h and we are sporty). Do it by car - you can always stop and walk out of the car when you spot animals. Gorge is closed but you still need to hire a local (on top of the park fee) to accompany you on a short walk (between $20 and $40 depending on the length), totally not worth it. The Pride Mountain is nowhere near what you see in the Lion King. Allegedly the tip has fallen down…Rip-off.

After completing our game drives in Masai Mara and Lake Nakuru, the third stop was Lake Naivasha. Only this time it was a boat ride to Crescent Island where we got to spend time with animals within close proximity.
It can get very hot so please wear a cap, stock up on water and be liberal with the sun screen. The boat man encouraged us to feed fish to the eagles inhabiting the trees along the island. He later showed us a group of Hippos frolicking in the water and in no time, we were on the island and ready for the hike.
We clicked lots of pictures of Zebras, Giraffes, wildebeests and deer as they roamed the island without any fear of the multitude of tourists trespassing their territory.
Lovely experience

Guide Mwema - Crescent Island is lovely but the experience went up to another whole level with Resident Guide Mwema. He had us spellbound throughout. We were a multi generational group who've been in many national parks but Mwema managed to catch and sustain our interest throughout. Make sure to book his time!

We stayed one night at Lake Naivasha prior to short safari in the Masai Mara, which included a boat safari which took us to Crescent Island where we had a walking tour by a fantastically friendly and knowledgeable guide (but I can't remember his name!). This was possibly the best 90 minutes of our stay in Kenya as we learnt so much. I had no idea that Out of Africa, for a start, was filmed almost in entirely here! The variety of animals and birds we saw here was stupendous. Can't recommend enough!

If you're looking for an adventure-filled day out, then the Naivasha Island Game Park is the perfect choice. Located in the southern part of Kenya, the park is a nature-lover's paradise. With plenty of wildlife and stunning scenery, this is one of the best places to go when you're in the area. The park is open all year round, with admission fees starting at $5 per person. There is also a variety of activities available, including game drives, boat rides, nature walks, bird watching, and more. The game park also offers a range of accommodation options, from camping to luxury lodges. The route to the park is relatively straightforward. From the nearby town of Naivasha, you will need to take the A104 road and then turn onto the B90 toward the park. Once you arrive, you can park your car and explore the park on foot or by car. The park has plenty of activities for all ages. You can take a game drive to spot some of the local wildlife, including zebras, giraffes, and wildebeests. You can also take a boat ride to explore the lake and observe hippos, crocodiles, and other wildlife.

It is a nice tour and the guys was very interesting. There aren't any animals you can't see elsewhere, but it is nice to be able to walk around them. The fact that some of the animals were brought there for a movie makes me uncomfortable especially Adobe now they cannot leave, although our guide told us that now the water level is going down and the animals will be able to get back to main land in few month.
The boat ride to and from the island was also very nice.

This was a fantastic hidden gem. It was a lovely boat ride with tons of different beautiful bird sightings, and HIPPOs. We were lucky to see many out of the water with babies. The true highlight was the amazing “island”. Our guide was Faith and she was excellent. We learned so much about each animal and their behaviors. She was so great at spotting things and so patient as we asked questions and took tons of pics. I couldn’t believe we were walking free with these magnificent wild animals. She took us off path to get as close as the animals would allow and was safe. If you are a nature and animal lover this is NOT to be missed.

Can you pitch a tent and camp on crescent island?
Written 7 January 2020
No. But nearby just over the dam which connects the island to the mainland (the island is really more like a peninsula), there are a couple of camping grounds- Sanctuary Farm and Acacia Campground.
Written 7 January 2020
We plan to be here in January.will it be cold? Are there any monkeys?
Written 24 November 2019
We want to explore the island independently. Would we miss a lot if we don’t take a guide? I do know that guide fees is included in the ticket price.
Written 5 October 2019
I visited this island today. There is no need for a guide. We spent 2.5 hours here. A guide would have rushed us.
Written 5 October 2019
Can crescent island be visited by road i.e. without boat ride. Also are birds and hippos visible from the island shores?
Written 4 October 2019
Yes, you can drive on to crescent island. You won't see hippos without taking a boat trip though
Written 24 November 2019
Hi,
Was the entrance fee only $20 because you're a student or is this the current price for a non-resident adult here?
Thanks

For including Crescent Island 1 hour tour in the same boat ride

Bonjour,
