"January 2020 We were fully satisfied with the 4-day trek in the Simien Mountains led by Samuel Kassaw. His knowledge of the place allowed us to discover a remarkable site and landscapes. On the material level, the two tents were spacious, the mattress sufficiently comfortable and the sleeping bags made it possible to face the negative temperatures of the nights of January. Thank you to the cooks for the good meals after a day of walking. We highly recommend Sammy for such an experience. This February my husband and I, our daughter and two friends went on a 14 day tour of Northern Ethiopia. Our route took us from Mekele, to the Dankil depression, then climbed to the Gerahalta churches, went to Axum to see the obelisk (stele), experienced the rock carved churches of Lalibela, trekked the Simion mountains for 6 days and finished with Bahir Dar where we saw the Blue Nile and Lake Tana. Samuel was our guide the entire time. He was instrumental in helping me organize the trip. One of my requirements was to have the same guide throughout the entire trip. He promised to accompany us the entire time and indeed this is what happened. The trip went very smooth. In a couple of instances we wanted to change the original schedule, he quickly adjusted and satisfied our wishes. Sammy is a highly skilled, experienced guide. He loves to show people his country and create for his clients a special vacation experience. Not only did we see amazing historic attractions and beautiful scenery in the Simions, but Sammy was very helpful in exposing us to Ethiopian life in the villages, taking us to an authentic coffee Ceremony in a village in the Simion Mountains or at an off the beaten path monestery again in the Simion Mountains. Sammy is a very nice and relieble person. Traveling the country with him was like traveling with a good Ethiopian friend, who always has our well being at heart. His support staff is professional and helpful. In the Simions, we had good tents, mattresses and one of us used his sleeping bag, the rest had our own. The food his team cooked was excellent. If anything, we had too much to eat. Every day was a full day of discovery and fun. We were all sorry to say goodbye to Sammy and Ethiopia by the end of the trip. I recommend Sammy as a highly skilled and trust worthy guide. Ethiopia has a lot to offer and Sammy can help you create the perfect vacation.

On short notice, Sammy was willing to take me with an already existing group to the Simien Mountains. The treck was 3 days/3 nights. Everything was well organized, like a clockwork. Good food, good gear. Fabulous staff. If you communicate your needs, Sammy will attend to them. There is no need to repeat what others have written befor me... Only: I highly recommend Sammy for your trips to Ethiopia. He is able to assist and prepare according to wishes of visitors to this beautiful country. Very reliable and trustworthy and flexibel. His tour is value for money, and his communication was indeed first rate. Ethiopia is a wonderful country with stunning scenery. Yet it is also a country starting to come to terms with increased tourism. Bring a reusable bottle, a filter for water for less plastic waste. It's also the tourists responsability. In the Simiens and the Bale mountain region, it gets very cold at night. Layers of warm things are recommended.

In December 2019, my wife and I went on a four day hike into the Simien Mountains with Sammy Kassaw, through Hike Ethiopia. It was a spectacular experience, and I couldnt recommend him highly enough. We would like to highlight the following: (i) Sammy's organisation is highly professional. Everything worked liked clockwork, everything which was promised was delivered, and nothing unexpected or unheralded happened. The equipment is also top-notch. Good tents and sleeping bags are absolutely vital, as the temperature drops to close to freezing at night. Sammy's is excellent - probably the best I've seen while hiking, and in many cases noticeable better than others we saw in camp. Sammy also has a knack for finding the best corner of the campsites and arranging, for example, a meal inside the cooking hut on a bitterly cold Christmas Eve, when the other groups ate outside. (ii) Sammy is an extremely nice, warm and engaging person. Being with him is like hiking the mountains with a highly professional friend. In particular, he is using his company to properly promote a sustainable tourism culture which involves and promotes the locals. He sees his company as providing an organised, developing set of opportunities for a large number of Ethiopians, and is articulate in describing this vision. He currently employs more than 25 people and is looking to get this up to 50. (iii) His support team was friendly, professional and absolutely efficient at everything they did. Sammy was extremely clear that he was not in the business of pushing a tipping culture and left it up to us to tip as we felt appropriately (although I strongly recommend leaving good tips - they make a huge difference to the support staff). (iv) He dealt with our group's altitude issues, a fall I took while crossing some rocks and various other minor issues we threw at him with a relaxed professionalism which was very encouraging. He also is clearly well known and trusted in the community (he comes from Debark, the gateway to the mountains(. Finally, he was great in recommending (and guiding us to) some great spots in Gondar. His speciality may be the Simiens, but he is clearly a good guy to know for other areas in Ethiopia as well. His tours were absolutely value for money, and his communication was first rate. I would very strongly recommend both him and his organisation. Enjoy! Sean
