One of most beautiful islands I have visited. Great scenery. The best Snorkelling I have done. So many different types of fish and some turtles as well. Simply amazing

First time to this place and not as nice as the other islands. Markets good at the waterfront and lots to explore with good walking shoes. Paid $25 each which is compulsory from carnival cruise to go down to the beach. Wow beautiful but not...More

We visited via cruise ship the Golden Princess and this island was wonderful, I love this little island, some of the family got the shuttle bus to the beach for snorkelling and swimming whilst the rest of us jumped into a gorgeous little inlet near...More

Went here by ship and stayed just a few hours. Fortunately, first on the beach. It was spectacular by any measure, comparable to Wineglass in Tassie. People are wonderful if you take the time to get to know them. Speaking French an advantage but some...More

Mare is one of the prettiest islands, lush with coconut trees and palm trees, stunning waters, and friendly, welcoming peoples. Plenty of rocks pools to explores, as well as Yejele beach and markets.

Mare is beautiful! The snorkeling was good but not incredibly overwhelming. There was food and drink readily available at cheap prices however, it would have been good to have seen and been able to try some local food - especially seafood. We seemed to only...More

Visited the island with a Royal Caribbean cruise. Even with all the people from the ship, there was plenty of room to lay under a palm tree. The water was crystal clear and I snorkel around the reef and through caves for hours. My wife...More

We had a happy day here but beware of the change of tide as the reef becomes very shallow in places and the current as very strong. The reef is clean and alive with fish and snorkelling there was fun. The beach is big enough...More

Unless you are in to snorkeling then give this a miss, most people go there on part of a cruise but for us we will stay on the ship next time.

Hello, Can anybody who has recently traveled to New Caledonia, please, advice regarding Mare beaches on Dec.26, 2018? Our ship (Noordam) offers only one option for this island – a bus transfer to Yejele Beach. I worry that with almost 2000 passengers on board this beach will be overcrowded and we will not enjoy snorkeling there. Are there any other nice beaches we can go to snorkel? How difficult is it to hire a taxi at the port? Some recent posts on TripAdvisor are saying that “all the transport is booked by the cruise so you will need to buy ship transfer, no private hire taxi's at the port”. But others posts (about 9-10 month earlier) suggested to hire local guys to do a private tour on Mare, plus Enis Beach with no crowds. I am so confused! We’ve done several Caribbean and Central America cruises and always prefer to hire local guides via TripAdvisor or taxi drivers at the ports of call. Many thanks

You will find that quite a few people will either not leave the ship or will stay and swim at the bay where the tender drops you off. Buses run frequently to Yejele Beach and I was surprised how deserted both the beach and... More
