The tree and road is owned and hand-maintained by the tribe; the entrance fee is a revenue for them. They charge a toll to sustain this activity and create revenue to the local people. One needs to put things in perspective: there is 98% unemployment...More

A rather impressive Banyan tree apparently mentioned by Captain James Cook. It is not too difficult to get there. The path is slightly steep but the locals have cut steps. You can swing on the vines in Tarzan fashion if you are so inclined. It...More

We made a visit to the Giant Banyan en route between Mount Yasur and the airport. Well worth it - amazing tree - is it the largest in the world, well it depends how you measure. But worth a stop if you love trees!

We were lucky to attend the launch of this tourist attraction with beautiful village dances, a morning tea, and then the visit to the tree. It's size is incredible and worth the visit.

Stopped in to view the Banyan Tree - was incredible - the kids enjoyed climbing the tree. Was a pretty special visit. So glad it was not ruined by Cyclone Pam as it has obviously been growing for many, many years.

Billed as the largest banyan tree in the world (is there a guiness book entry?), it is indeed really, really big tree. But there are many other really, really big banyan trees throughout Vanuatu. It's a nice tree. But I wouldn't go out of my...More
