We were taken here as part of an island tour. Our guide gave us no information, just stopped the car and said Captain Cook Landing. Not much to see really. Just read the plaque and move on.

I was there on a wet grey day so perhaps my thoughts are askew of the area. Interesting place, local kids that came running for a photo op, apart from that i would'nt waste my time.

This was an anti climax of a tourist attraction, I recommend the fishing pigs nearby - a lot better and more fun!

Not sure exactly what I was expecting, but it certainly wasn't a sad little plinth and a closed gift shop built by NZ Aid. Actually felt embarrassed that the Queen, Prince Philip and Princess Anne had had to visit in 1970. Don't bother venturing here...More

Going here you can read about where Captain Cook landed. It was clean and had information, so you do not need much more than that I guess.

I enjoy visiting historic sites but when we arrived to this particular site it was all I could do to refrain from bursting in to Peggy Lee's "Is that all there is?" It's on the Taufa'ahau Road (the principal road in Nuku'alofa) about 10 minutes'...More

It is a small sign overlooking the bay where you can imagine Captain Cook's ship entering into, possible taking in my the ship's rowing boats. The landing place chosen because it was close to the then capital village of Tonga where the King lived.

Compared to Tasman, Cook definitely picked a more attractive landing place. You are likely to visit this place as part of a tour of Tongatapu but it is definitely worth reading up on the history of both beforehand. It makes for a pretty picture otherwise...More

Quite uninteresting if you ask me. It's just a cement area with a plaque and a wall mural that says "Captain Cook Landing Site." Maybe if you're into the history it's more interesting but it really wasn't worth getting out of the car too see....More
