Not easy to find is one of the must tourist attractions of Tongatapu, the main island in the Kingdom of Tonga. Somewhere off the main road in Houma on the south east coast (locals will help you to find) down a neat road is a viewing platform where one can view the whole strip of coast where blowholes are located.... Water sprays out of holes in rocks as the waves from the South Pacific Ocean lash the rocky seaside off Tongatapu's Western coast near the village of Houma. Thousands of years of interaction between the water and rock has made these holes that blow water out into sprays all across the coast near this village that they look like hot... More

Felt like we could have lingered here for hours just watching the waves come in and 'perform'. Very relaxing to watch the blowholes, excellent photography opportunities for budding photographers.

The blowholes are found in the village of Houma. Make a left on the road with the picture of the King and Queen (the billboard makes them look like real estate agents) and follow it to the end. It's best to come at high tide. I think the blowholes in Veitongo at Keleti Beach are nicer but Houma is still... More

Pretty cool to see, but not quite as amazing as we had expected. Really pretty at sunset. The locals are there in force trying to sell their crafts and they can be quite pushy. Like most places in Tonga, there aren't really any signs, so it's really hard to find but worth it.

We did a day Tour of the Nuku'alofa,Tongatapu Island, Tonga. The Blowholes were included in the Island Tour. It was worth a look for speccy photos and the locals had stalls set up on the day for the cruise ship visitors. I loved the fishing pigs, I have never seen pigs digging in the sand for crabs! We especially like... More

The best thing about the blowholes is that they are spread over a long distance, however they don't shoot very high in the air so aren't particularly spectacular. I saw better in Samoa. Several ladies with tables of merchandise nearby.

Great spot to checkout the sights and sounds of the blowholes. Beautiful Sunsets also. There's usually locals with some great souvenirs onsite to grab some gifts.

The activuty geree can vary depending on the tide & swell. On a good day the blow holes are spectacular. If you haven't picjed a good say the setting is nixe anyway, with views of the dramatic coast line& Pacific Ocean. Watch the kids as can be a bit treacherous if you go too close when the holes are really... More

The access is a bit hairy, unpaved roads and muddy tracks, but the vista is one of the best places to see the island coast line AND a merry chorus of seaspray. We've seen blowholes all around NZ and the Pacific and this was a natural second to Punakaiki. If it's offered to you as part of your tour, it's... More
