Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The place where Colombia won its independence from Spain becomes a holiday light wonderland for the holidays. Worth the drive but expect traffic. We parked half a mile away and walked. Many food vendors with interesting things.

I have been driving by this place a few times each year when I’m traveling from Bogotá north to Boyaca and Santander regions but stopped this time and so glad I did.
The statue is probably the largest that I have seen in the all of Colombia. Great place for photos and a good place to park your car and enjoy a walk, not to be overshadowed by the historic significance that this place holds in Colombian history.
I spent a bit over two hours, enjoying a coffee at the small cafes, just an enjoyable afternoon.
Life is good in Villa de Leyva, Boyaca!

A history major like me had a wonderful time at this place, for it is here, during the 19th century, that the liberation from Spain began for what would be the nations of Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and namely, Colombia. My parents were Colombian, and I have lived in Bogota for a few years in my youth, so This battle is of significant importance when learning about the country, and its liberator, Simon Bolivar.
The battlefield covers a wide expanse of hill country with statues and monuments, but there is a building near the bridge called "El Ciclorama," a round structure which has the largest mural in South America, and when explained by the local guide, adds color to the rich history of the event held here and, most importantly, the people of Colombia.
A great place to visit.

If you drive by it you should definitely go see it. But if it doesn't fit into your schedule than don't go all the way to visit the place. Historically its a very important place for Colombia of course but the shoe memorial isn't worth it to reschedule your trip.

Guess you have to learn it before you go, to make it meaninful or hire someone to help tou with that part. Since almost al Colombians understand what went on, they don't bother with the explanation and since it's a big place, with several view points, I guess the trip is both historical and a good chance to sit back and relax for a little while, enjoying the nice views the place offers... the landscape is quite something, too.
Been there a couple of times, but always go in on my way to Villa de eyva or Boyaca's beautiful towns (driving from Bogota)--- if you're around stop there and check it out. But to drive from Bogota all the way to this place... mmmm, not so sure.

It is the place where the independence last battle was fought. A little bit far if you only are going for that point of interest, but surrounded by a LOT of other beautiful and interesting places to visit.

This is a an interesting place to visit and learn about some of the key events in Colombia's history. The actual bridge is only small but there are some great monuments to walk round. We paid for a local guide to tell us the stories which was well worth it.

A large park designed to honor the historical battlefield. Sadly I was here during Christmas and the grounds were covered in tacky ornaments and bizarre lighting figurines. But an otherwise nice place to stop. The museum was closed when I visited.
