By Jeep we crossed the Uyuni desert. We've never been to a normal desert before, thus, the salt desert was our first desert we've visited. Thomas, our private driver we hired got all the equipment necessary. Our nights have been delightful cold, part of the...More
I might be biased, as a half Bolivian, but this salt flat is one of the most incredible places you will ever visit. During the raining season, the water accumulates over the salt flat and creates a mirror effect.

We had a great time in the hot springs and perspective playing. Our tour guides were wonderful, kind people. The road trip through and the cabins were seamless and comfortable. Everyone is committed to preserving this tourist spot and the livelihoods of the locals.
We have visited at the beginning of October when the salt flats were mostly dry. It was amazing to see the endless whiteness in all directions and drive through it. I enjoyed the northern part of the salt flats called salar sensual, near Tunupa volcano....More
This place is magical, all the fauna and flora are amazing and worth visiting!

I was fortunate enough to have a perfect day despite being early in the rainy season. It rained just enough the night before the start of my 4 day tour allowing me to fully experience this natural wonder. Truely an unforgettable experience!
Salar de Uyuni is a must see. Cancel all your other travel plans but make sure that you see Uyuni with a decent tour company. LaPaz is also very nice but Uyuni should be the priority in my humble opinion as a nature lover.

I would ask what you would skip Atacama in preference for? If you are short on time and have to catch a flight then you would have little choice. However, there are so many natural attractions accessible from San Pedro, I certainly wouldn't suggest that you skip them. A quick search of day trips out will give you some idea of the variety of organised visits. All highly recommended!
