The route is fantastic! No matter the time of year, I highly recommend driving yourself and paying a tour company to drive you to the sites. Where good walking shoes - some of the best views and short hikes start from the side of the...More

About 2hrs from Salta, Quebrada del Rio de las Conchas is an area on unrivalled beauty with red rock hills that resemble a martian landscape. Unfortunately the famed multi coloured rock layers are only visible in certain sunlight and we went on a grey cloudy...More

An amazing road trip exploring the ancient rock formations. This is a must see if you're in the area. It's possible by bike but much better in a tour with a driver so you can really spend time exploring the different sites.

Probably one of the most dramatic and beautiful drives in my life ! What colors, what dramatic sceneries ! Furthermore the road is in top condition, and is the main road to drive from Saklta to Cafayate. Worth also to visit some of the gorges...More

This is a region to be seen slowly and by car, to observe nature at its best. Take your time, get out of the car, take pictures, admire the beautiful forms of the mountains and also the different colors. I did not expect such beautifulness!

Absolutely stunning. Did a tour with iPuna for 300 pesos. Lovely guide and the Quebrada is simply stunning. Definitely a highlight of this trip!

Take stroll down the dry river bed and up around the amazing erosional rock forms. It would be very easy to spend a couple of hours in the area if you are interested in Geology or Geomorphology. A few of the cactus were in flower...More

We are looking to spend somewhere between 4 - 6 days in the Salta region. If we have 6 days we would be able to go to Salta, Cafayate and up to Jujuy and Humahuaca. But if we have only 4 - I think it would be too much to cram in. If having to choose - which area would you choose? Would you head north or south? or are both a 'must do'? thank you.

Hi Margaret Have just been to both areas (last November). They are both worth seeing, just keep in mind that Purmamarca in the north is very touristy and gets quite crowded. Personally I prefered the south with Cafayate and... More

IMO, you don't really need a tour company, just a sense of adventure. How long are you staying? Rent a car for the freedom to go where you want. Although they are more expensive than the States. Try Cactus Rentals - they... More
