I am from Merida and never get tired of visiting this destination over and over. It's one of my favorite spots to visit. Great food, great souvenirs and fruits and produce, all pretty accesible. They don't speak English tho, so please make sure bring someone who speaks it with you and local currency

I like public market. It's excellent to take a sunday breakfast and buy some souvernirs. You should try the "Pisca Andina" or a "Trucha" fish.

It's a typical market from latinoamerica
We went to lunch there and buy some gifts. The sancocho de gallina is a soup they made really good. All the fruit juices are fresh.
At the 3er floor the have the gallery with the most recognize artisans from Merida.

A place to buy souveniera
Nice local market full of art and food stands. A good place to eat in the third floor. Try restaurant # 6, Los Frailejones. Good trout and other local fares.

Anywhere you go in Venezuela of you want to taste the real tupí al food you should go To the Mercados Libres ( local markets). Not the case in the most tourist (supposedly) oriented city of the country, Mérida. We ordered the campesino breakfast and it was as poor, could and scarce as the Service.

Great place to buy souvenirs
The place is very clean and safe. You can find all kinds of souvenirs at a very good price, even cheaper than other places in Merida. You can also find vegetables, coffee, seasonings, grains, traditional drinks, etc. There are ATMs nearby although most of the sellers accept card payment.

Even though we didn't lunch there, there are many traditional food options and we were told by many locals they were really good.

Just a local humble mkt place but interesting
Typical all packed up market place. All kind of local foods, instruments and beverages.
Regular for breakfast at Restaurant "Tipico de Douglas" located on the
2nd floor.
Not worthy if you have to spend time getting there.

Crowded and Repatative
Most of the goods available for purchase in this 3 story shopping center are relatively the same from booth to booth. The complex itself is PACKED with people and stalls, and a little bit difficult to navigate. When I went to eat at one of the restaurants, the procedure was confusing to say the least... after finally finding a table in the biggest dining room, the waitress rushed me to order after seeing the menu for less than a minute, and afterward led me to a booth/stall outside of the restaurant to pay... it was a strange experience to say the least. I found a few decent things to purchase after exploring for a couple of hours, but I wouldn't want to go again on my own- too overwhelming!

Artisan shopping galore
As an expat living in Puerto la Cruz on the coast, we have nothing like this so it was a treat to us. BIG, CLEAN, SAFE, and lots of choices. FABULOUS Hammocks, artwork, blackberry wine, leather goods, textiles and lots of crap souvenirs too. WORTHWHILE of a few hours if you like craft markets!

Amazing
Amazing, i could stay there a endless time and still finding new treasures. In the third floor there a village with tends in a totally differente atmosphere, where you can find artists hand made pieces. Moreover, the restaurants are amazing.
