Located near the airport, this is one of the unrestored platforms of the south coast. There is a number of moais and pukaos knocked down and scattered. What makes this place really interesting is the wall that can be found behind the main platform. With...More

There is a red stone column here which looks like pre-Inca columns found In South America. Nearby ahus have the amazing Incan stonework seen in Peru. The moai are still toppled over.

Located high on the headland overlooking a small island, this was the home of the Birdman Cult. The first man to return form the island with the egg of the sooty tern, was the champion for a year. The houses are low lying, and housed...More

This is a very interesting site because of the wonderfully "faced" wall of the Moai platform. The craftsmanship and fitting on the block is unlike anything else on the island and has lead folks to speculate that it was built by Peruvians who sailed here....More

An archaeological complex with the remains of very different ahu. And here you'll find the only “Inca” wall in Rapa Nui. Also one of the few female maoi can be seen here.

This is a little bit off of the beaten path and has all fallen down moai but it feels more isolated and wild than some of the other sites. Worth finding.

You really should have a guide here who can relate to you the differences in the two ahus and to tell you about the female statue nearby. The more recent ahu, which was built in the style of the Incas, was destroyed by European explorers,...More

Possibly not worth going out of your way for, for us it was a starting point for a hike up to Ranu Kao, but the Incan style stone work is an interesting mystery.

The Ahu Vinapu area was one of my favorite Moai locations, mainly due to the architecture. There are three platforms (Ahu) at this location, Vinapu, Tahira and a third Ahu located within the fuel tank storage area which can not be accessed. While this site...More

This site is uninteresting at first, until you look a bit closer. The carvings and ahu itself are unlike the others on the island.
