Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A welcoming place to spend time with God. The church building is open, pretty, well-maintained. The stained glass, carved statues and pews are all clearly made with love and admiration for local culture and tradition.

Great carvings and stained glass.
Beautiful high wooden ceiling.
When I went the front entrance was locked so I had to go around the left side entrance.
Very peaceful.

Services are held at 9am sharp on Sundays and everyone from the island seems to be here. Get here early because it gets crowded. The singing is up the to usual south pacific standard with amazing harmonies. The church sits at the top of the main avenue through town. Its simple white frontage is adorned with symbols you will see all over the island, birdmen, dance paddles and an eye directly above the entrance. Inside a bizarre carvings of Jesus with a bird on his head and another Christ / birdlike figure.

The church is reflective of the polynesian beauty of the island. The songs were polynesian chants and it was truly a spiritual experience-

The church in Rapa Nui is the only church on the island. built in 1949 it still hold Catholic Services on Sunday. There are plans of building a new church in the near future. You can go in and look around and it was very interesting with the mixture of catholic artwork and Rapa Nui artwork

You will have to wait another year now, since Easter Sunday is just over, but if you can come next year let's do it, it is really an unique blend of christian and polinesian customs, with music and a mixture of local pleople and tourists from all part of the World.

Sunday mass is a great experience. Native singing is beautiful. After mass priest is most friendly and very happy to have picture taken while wearing headdress. Church is interesting to visit alone, but I would not put it on the top of my list.

We were lucky enough to be here on Palm Sunday for the church service. It started off outside, with real palms; guitar and tom-tom music as accompaniment. The celebrant had a huge head-dress made out of white feathers! Church is very beautiful, though the carved idols which confuse the Christian message with Polynesian rituals are hard to take - fortunately these were fully covered over for the church service.

Very interesting and simple church decorated with Rapanui and Catholic symbols inside/outside of the church. We had an opportunity to attend full mass Rapanui style. It was a combination of Rapanui and Catholic, with the priests dressed in Christian vestments and Rapanui headdress. The mass was in Rapanui and Spanish. Loved the Rapanui singing and music, it was wonderful! After the service, the priests were very accommodating to pose for photos. If you are on Rapa Nui on Sunday, open to a different interpretation of Catholic mass, recommend attending at 9 am. A wonderful experience, so glad we were able to attend.

Sorry I can't remember the exact time mass was but it was around 8:00 AM. It was one of the best experiences on the island. A native priest in traditional headdress gave mass in the Rapa Nui language, I wasn't expecting it and it blew me away.
We had a religious experience of sorts there too, because we were late we had to stand outside the church. 1/2 way through the service a white horse came to the front of the church and tried to walk slowly in to the church. On closer inspection the horse was badly injured, it's rib cage was exposed and it was probably dying. I don't think they have a vet on the Island so I guess it felt drawn to the church in it's hour of need. I took a photo on my phone but all my pictures were accidentally erased on the flight home, shame my daughter didn't take any.
We also donated a whole lot of food, clothes, etc. that we had brought over that we couldn't fit in our suit cases to one of the elderly priests living behind the church before we left. (I swear he looked just like the priest from Game of Thrones).
