Ahu Huri A Urenga is a solitary moai with 4 hands (the significance of which is lost today). Ahu Huri A Urenga is built on a 20° angle to it's platform so that on the winter solstice the moai is precisely aligned to face the sunrise, so that the people knew daylight would increase after that happened. Located in the... More

This solitary Moai is a real hidden gem, there are no indications to find it, nor it's possible to spot it from far unless you really pay attention. But any statue is banal on Easter Island, this one even less, it's so worth it the visit! Its position in the island interior is strategically: it looks in the direction where... More

In the middle of the island, quite away from all the coastal ones, the thing that is special about this moai is that astronomically it lines up with the spring equinox for the southern hemisphere, Still used by islanders as a Important spriritual location. From what was shared with us You can get very close (respectfully so), walk around it,... More

This moai seems a little out of place, standing alone, near the edge of town. Although out of all of the upright moai on the island, you can get the closet to this one. He doesn't have the grandure of some of the other locations but its serene and quiet and a chance to get up close to one

Ahu Huri a Urenga is slightly off the common tourist paths, which is a shame as it is fascinating – the only known moai with four hands! Though other reviewers have complained of erosion, this is really not the case and three of the four hands are fully visible. Absolutely worth a visit to stop and wonder what the inspiration was... Moia are badly eroded and falling apart. Watch out for the horse poop. It is part of my half day tour.

Insignificant to many of the Moai because it is worn away, in fact I didn't take a picture here, no need to stay long either - can be seen from the road.
