Worth a look

Although not really a dessert, I would definitely recommend a visit while in the Yukon. If you have a car it is an ideal stop during a day trip.

Very cool desert. It rained a little while we were there but we enjoyed the views. It is a very unique place.

High and interesting. Covered with snow in winter. I was told people hike it in summer. Looks lovely as it is . Tourists stopped by to take photos.

Have seen tha Great Sand Dunes N. M. But never expected to see sand dunes in the Yukon. Our bus driver, Ann, stopped here on our way to Carcross to ride the train back to Skagway.

We rented a car in Skagway when we got off ship and drove across the border to Carcross, Yukon. Being Canadians, we thought it was cool to cross the Canadian border just to see Carcross, but it was well worth it. The scenery was outstanding on the drive and even though we got some rain, we had lots of beautiful... More

It is quite amazing to walk across the sand of this desert, which seems to be out of character from the other forested, mountainess terrain of the area. There were snow-capped mountain peaks in the distance. The sand is fine and what you would expect to find in a desert in a southern, hot climate. The sight left me awe-struck.

So interesting and learned a lot about how this desert came to be. Lots of people doing activities and we just walked around and took photos. Fun to see something you wouldn't expect to see in the Yukon!! Great stop on your way to the town of Carcross!!

Minutes from the town of Carcross, there is fantastic dune system! We were making our way down to Skagway, with many stops along the way, it was great. It truly boggled our minds with how the sand got there. Worth the stop and read!

Not what you expect to find in the north, but here it is, a real bit of desert. The signs tell you the story, and a short walk later you could be in most any desert anywhere. Fantastic mountains all around and the views just get better as you keep walking.

This is a unique situation. It's beautiful !! While on top of the dune I was able to see ask many of the elements of the nature. Mountains, water, snow, sand, sky, greenery and roads... Beautiful view. Highly recommend stopping and walking up to the top of the mound. Uphill is a challenge but totally worth it!! Bring a good... More
