Round for with cannons on all sides. In fantastic condition. Built in 1808 to keep out Napoleons invasion. Harwich port needed protection as it would have been a perfect embarking area. Staff are friendly and welcoming and knowledgeable and well trained.

Why? Not a bank holiday. Other museums were open but nothing in Harwich. Waste of a journey. Tried other places in Harwich nothing. Gave up and went to Colchester Castle.

Popped in here to start our visit to the Sea Shanty Weekend. The fort itself is a great place to walk around and discover lots of hidden rooms and historical paraphernalia. On our visit though there was lots of re-enactments going on. Loads of people...More

Enjoyed an hour here but could have spent several more, there is so much to see, a walk back through history in a fabulous setting. Congratulations to the volunteer restoration team.

A place with a really interesting history, both from its inception, and from the story of its restoration by local enthusiasts in the 1960's and since. The slide show is a must see.
