- caroledothollis28 contributionsVery busy and at times like the bull run in Spain.Amazing little town as you walk down the hill, don't try to park anywhere near the car parks in Padstow as they must fill up at dawn! As soon as you hit the main shopping area the crowds hit you, it is very busy and the streets are small and tight, got hit by a car being driven by a lunatic, glancing yes but if I had been elderly god only knows. There are high end shops and independents alongside an excellent Boots which was packed out. The harbour front was the busiest, only a few seats to sit on but people were seated on the harbour walls and anything that was static really. A small lane takes you from the harbour up into the hills and over to a wonderful beach area. The harbour, the streets were clean and the local people were very friendly (mostly) and the shop staff were all friendly and helpful with no exceptions. Despite everything, we enjoyed our time in Padstow but be prepared for a lot of people.Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 21 September 2023
- Daydream654924990343 contributionsGreat for crabbing.Very busy place. Great for crabbing our crab trap was only in the water for a few minutes and loads of crabs were in the net. Highly recommend if you want a crabbing experience. Car pack is decent priced and it's practically on the harbour.Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 23 September 2023
- Gilly360Durham, United Kingdom39 contributionsRick SteinVisited as part of a bike hire trip. Lovely place. As picturesque as Rick Stein's Saturday Kitchen segments. I'd have liked to have spent a bit longer here but everything seemed to shut up shop before 5pm. Lovely array of shops, gifts, food and locally made celebrity fish chef alcohol . Rick Stein shop with nautical but nice Kitchen and homewear. Extortionate prices, but one would expect that in such a place. There was a handy Spar shop with nice staff. One thing I noticed - a lot of dog fouling, people hadn't picked up afterwards. I wouldn't have minded, had it been Chalkie. I wouldn't have minded catching crabs here. I'd have like Rick Stein to have cooked them but he charges an awful lot for cod and chips!Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 October 2023
- LAD63Shepton Mallet, United Kingdom2,736 contributionsGreat afternoonMy husband and I visited Padstow to go to a shoe shop there that has great boots. After a little shopping enjoyed a walk around the harbour before heading to the pub for a pint of Mena Doo on draft. Sat enjoying our drinks on the comfy sofas next to the log burner. Menu looked good but as we had a late breakfast wouldn’t have managed a meal but will be try when next in the areaVisited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 November 2023
- Michael D20 contributionsRick SteinlandI love Padstow. We visit every time we’re in Cornwall. However, it seems to be turning into a Rick Stein themed fishing village. Everywhere you turn he’s trying to squeeze another pound out of the tourists. With little regard for “local” businesses.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 February 2024
- Audrey F555 contributionsGreat harbourSchool's were on holiday, so it was so busy. Lovely place to spend the afternoon if you can get parked! Went for a pasty forlunch then headed to the harbour area for an ice cream, and a seat. Lovely old place, great for wandering around.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 June 2024
- NewryoneisbackNewry, United Kingdom3,185 contributionsPretty and breezyIt’s a rather small, quaint harbour. It was cool and breezy despite it being mid June. There’s not much to see or much more to say: it’s similar to many pretty harbours around the UK and Ireland. RNLI volunteers were practicing and as it was only about 11am a chap was setting up his restaurant for trade. I noted he priced a crab sandwich at £17. There is no chance that I would pay this sum for a crab sandwich. I wondered if this was the Rick Stein effect. What I mean is that people price things more greedily as there’s a place nearby that draws a crowd and lives on its reputation (what I saw of Stein’s empire didn’t much impress me but as he’s made his money he doesn’t have to bother). I got a much better fish & chips in Harry Ramsden’s Manchester for less than half Rick’s price. I knew a business owner who had his own coffee cafe. He kept complaining that Starbucks hadn’t come to his town and when they did he raised his prices. He was delighted. There is a public toilet not far from the harbour. It was set up to charge users but not now.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 June 2024

Parked in this car park for a period of three day’s. Each day before the ticket expired we bought another ticket for 24 hours we placed all three tickets on the dash board. The ticket inspection photographed the wrong ticket and when returned home we got a nasty fine in the post for £60!
Very upsetting as we did nothing wrong. We purchased all three tickets displayed all three tickets at a price of £8 each ticket.
Came home tided the car of rubbish (throwing away the used tickets) we have no paper proof and now we are out of pocket. £24 for the purchased tickets and £60 fine we have proof of the money going out of the bank but they say this is not acceptable
Shame because we had a lovely three days in Padstow but then ruined by a ticket inspector not doing his job correctly
Be careful not to fall for this one if you visit Padstow

Beautiful fishing village ruined by us…the tourists! There’s not actually anything to see there apart from soak in a beautiful harbour, so the thousands of people descending on it take that away, - all you can see is people, it’s like a festival without any entertainment - and you’re left with hours of queues for food, no where to sit and take a break (and I expect if you’re lucky enough to find a spot only the view of another tourist’s bum). We found ourselves wondering the streets corralled by other tourists desperate for food and/or something to see and do. Hours long queues for fast food (chips and pasties) and those restaurants that were open weren’t welcoming (book ahead if you do decide to go) and over priced. I was told by a rose tinted regular to Cornwall about crabbing in the harbour….but I’m amazed they’re not endangered there’s that many people doing it - along the whole length of the harbour wall pretty much. As we walked in from the car park near the Tesco’s on the way in there was a sign saying, “expect central car parks to be full by 10am, alternatively park at the overspill car park” (where we had parked a short walk out of the centre) and one of the locals had graffitied after the word “alternatively”, “f**k off home”. I’m guessing the council had tried to scribble over this but I can understand the sentiment from the locals. Their home town is a nightmare in high season. Don’t go!

Visited on a Tuesday in September and you would have thought it was the height of summer with how busy it was! However, it’s understandable as Padstow really is a lovely little place. Took our daughter crabbing which she loved, and enjoyed wandering in and out of the pretty shops. So many nice places for lunch and ice cream pit stops too. Was very misty on the day we were there but it was just as lovely. Car parks get very busy so get there early otherwise you won’t get a space!

We had a fabulous day at Padstow. The Harbour was lush, it was Idyllic, lovely bustle of people eating Cornish pasties, ice creams whilst watching the world go by. The walks around were great, the views of the beaches were beautiful. Be prepared to get out of breath but it’s well worth it walking up, around and back down. The rocks was fun for my son and little caves. The town itself was lovely, quaint, busy and lots of life and places to eat. Parking was a nightmare but patience paid off. Boat trips are reasonable rates, you need to book in advance (online best) and you get to see if you are fortunate enough - puffins and seals. Beautiful place, great fishing village to go.

Visited Aug 2020, it gets very busy and can be difficult to find parking in peak season so make sure you arrive before 10.30am! Came here and had great day crabbing. Many shops in the area selling crabbing lines, would recommend the one with a net basket on the end. Crabs love bacon and gammon!

Lovely old fishing port, great for a walk around the harbour, quite busy in October. Lots of Cornish pasty or fish n chips outlets. Narrow streets. Lower carpark is usually full. Link road carpark had lots of space - £1 - 1 hour, £2.10 - 2 hrs, £6.20 all day, bring correct change, 5 min walk down to harbour.
Ferry across to Rock runs every 20 mins, £3 each way.
or walk the coast path to Harbour Cove.

If you are thinking of popping to Padstow for a day trip before the 'staying' holiday makers come back on 4th July........don't bother, it's basically shut!!!!! We popped down for an hour from Saltash today, 25th June and the public toilets were shut at the Railway carpark as it was after 2pm and although the attendant was still there he wouldnt reopen them for me. He seemed to be enjoying being able to turn me away and I felt 'delighted' in informing that no others were open in town. I did sarcastically say "it was ok as i'd do it in the street" (I obviously didn't do thst) but really, what else could you do after being denied this basic human right! I felt the locals are being very anti social! Don't think it's all COVID-19 related either, watch it all change immediately on 4th July when they"ll be back to taking every penny they can out of holidaymakers and day trippers and not giving a damn about Coronavirus 😏 I for one won't be popping down and spending my money in the town and I advise others to think twice before visiting Padstow. If the residents are so concerned about outsiders from other parts of Cornwall visiting, we won't! and as a consequence won't bring our spending power either

We visited padstow twice during our two week stay .. it is a beautiful little village.. the only thing that ruins it is us tourists… well the rude self centred unkind ones.
If you are visit here be kind .. be polite and be nice . This is people’s homes / jobs / livelihood and they are really working hard to provide services and experiences . They are short staffed and being treated badly by the public daily.
We had two lovely days down here yes it was busy but we found the staff helpful kind and friendly but so where we .. remember you are on holiday so relax they are working so tired and due to the way people speak to them stressed and fed up.
Definitely visit the Christmas shop it is lovely and very quaint .
Bring snacks in case you have to wait for food especially if you have children or a husband and that get hangery.🤣 or visit the spar..😝.
If you can get the bus or use the over spill car park if arriving after 11. The buses are fab really clean and you can then drink some of the lovely beers and wines on offer safely.
But most of all be kind .. it is busy .. but we had fab two days taking a relaxed approach.

Lovely place to visit, this is my 2nd time coming to Padstow. The harbour is steeped in history. depending on how much time you have for your visit, there are quite a few restaurants, cafes and public houses to visit. A good mixture of shops to visit for gifts and souvenirs. However please be prepared to pay quite a lot for your fish and chips, especially if you are buying them from Rick Steins Fish and Chips establishment this meal will cost you approximately £11.25p. If you go to Rick Steins Ice Cream shop, which is next door to the Fish and Chip shop, it will cost you approximately £2.50p for a small cone and 1 scoop of ice cream. If you wish to dine at Ricks restaurant and you can afford it, a 4 course meal for 1 person will cost you £145.

We are staying in Newquay and we have driven to Padstow for a few hours. It’s only a 30 min drive and it’s so worth it.
Lots of crabbing spaces available to keep the teens entertained.
So many places to eat.. drink & get ice creams
Parking was at the top of the bank and £4 4 hours - you just download the app.
The Harbour Inn is a lovely pub to visit whilst your there, staff very friendly.

Where does Padstow park and ride start and finish. Is there a car park nearby?
Written 4 June 2023
I am not exactly sure what your asking.
Padstow main rd car park has pay and display (the machine accepts credit cards and you can also use the justpark app), I think the parking lot was on A389, If I remember correctly the lot opens 8am, it is about a 10 minute walk to the harbor.
There is a lot of information about parking on line if I did not answer your question.

Hello, I am returning to Padstow for Christmas and New Year and was wondering what the situation is with bars and pubs on New Years Eve. Do you need to book. I’ve looked on the individual sites but I can’t see anything about New Year’s Eve. Thanks in advance
Written 16 October 2021
I am afraid I don't know anything about the bars etc opening at Christmas time. Padstow is a very popular place so it may be good if you can book what you need early

Hello,
I was hoping somebody could advise please. Is independent kayaking allowed at Padstow Harbour/Port Isaac? New to kayaking.
Many thanks

Do they still have a band playing at the harbour on a Sunday evening through the summer months?

Suggest that you ring the Tourist Information Office, they will know and are exceedingly helpful too.
