It's like walking into someone else's dream! A moment apart where time stops and the machines (sculptures) and the colours (Nikki) take you into their time frame. You'll need to be open-minded!

Although the Fribourg museum is much smaller than the Jean Tinguely Museum in Basel, it has a subdued cosy atmosphere that befits Jean's weird and wonderful machines and is well worth a visit. The juxtaposition of his stark and angular mechanical creations with some of the colourful curvaceous (and in many ways equally crazy) art works of his wife Niki... More

I was familiar with Tinguely's work from Basel, where there is a huge museum dedicated to his crazy contraptions. But it was fun to see his work combined with Niki Saint de Phalle's colorful art and to read about their relationship. The museum is playful, fun and just the right size museum to keep your attention. Crazy or Art Geniuses?... More

Well worth a visit. I am certain that visitors will not have seen anything like this before. Fantastic art works from Niki and the weirdest contraptions which look as if they are kept together by pieces of old string but amazingly work put together by Jean.

Two great artists, with very different languages of expression communicating one idea. Niki de Saint Phalle's works are big, colorful, robust; while Jean Tinguely are thin, rusted, animated. The museum is a fun and magical place where we, the viewer, become part of their mysterious world of machines, poetry, watercolors, and sculptures. This museum is great for children too. A... More

I just didn't get it. A lot of 'stuff' e.g. bike wheels, chairs, chains, toys, etc all made into a machine that shudders, rumbles, whirs and clicks. Sorry it just went over my head....

Boy, did this museum have strange pieces of art. Not many of these odd constructions, but the ones there are, are just strange strange strange. Even children might like this place, as the scultures are animatronic!

If you like the art of Jean Tinguely and/or Niki de Saint Phalle, you should visit this little museum. But make sure to see their works in the town, too!

An eccentric collection of wonderful machines. Our French was not up to translating all the labels, but we had great fun watching all the exhibits and working out which bits moved what! If you have mechanically minded youngsters, I cannot imagine what you would have to bribe them to leave!

Just awesome! So much imagination and great fun for all ages. Tinguelly's mechanican sculptures are fascinating and a delight to watch. Each one is individual and one can spent hours watching them move. Niki de Saint Phalle's work is also fascinating as well as thought-provoking. Highly recommended. We loved it!
