Situated about 20 minutes drive from Tarifa and about 1 1/2 hours from Estepona, the Roman ruins are right on Bolonia Beach. There is ample paved parking and the museum building is modern. It has a small gift shop and nice restrooms. Admission is free for EU residents and 1,50€ for non-EU residents. Weather wasn't so nice today, so we... More

First found this site in 2003 and over the years it has grown and improved. Quite breathtakingly beautiful setting and well worth a visit.

Picture's can't do this place justice. Set against the deep blue sky, ocean and white sand beach, this place will take your breath away. We didn't have to pay an entrance fee, we just showed our passports to prove we were EU citizens and entrance was free. We would have paid anyway as the site was really worth visiting. We... More

Lovely location with views of the ocean and north African mountains - the Romans picked a great spot to make and ship Garum. The museum is a good introduction to the site and well labelled in both Spanish and English. It really is a delightful spot to wander round and imagine life in a major Roman city 2000 years ago.... We were staying in Tarifa and I had seen this place mentioned in a guide book. On our way out of town we stopped in. I had initially thought this was just going to be a few ruins by the ocean, we would stop for 15 minutes, take a look and be off. Boy was I surprised! This place was... More

Loved the visit to this piece of history. The engineering ability of the Romans and the Greeks is amazing to see after 2000 years.

This was not at the top of our must-do list at the beginning of our three-week visit to Andalusia, but it ended up being in the top 3 of favourite spots that we had visited when we compared notes at the end of our stay. It was a special visit to the remains of a Roman city, especially located on... More

This is a site of great importance and unlike many in Spain has been restored over the years making it one of the most interesting in Andalusia in my opinion! This is our fourth visit and every time we see something new and additional on going work has added something extra. It is also free to EU residents an added... More

the Roman site is very well preserved, the museum is also very good, and FREE You can walk around the site, take pictures. It's just in front of one of the best beaches in Spain, long fine golden sand, clear water perfect for swimming a bit... feels like if you were in an exotic caribbean island. There are some restaurants... More

This is an excellent tour of a Roman archaeological site which in its day was an important town and tuna-salting factory. The tour is well way-marked and all the important points are signed in both Spanish and English. In addition there is a museum of artefacts found on the site. Definitely worth the 2 hours taken to stroll gently around... More
