Locked out
Oct. 2020 • Couples
We got to the place, paid the price and received a map and some headphones wirh the presentation. We went from 1 to 13. Looked at everything. We havent seen half of things from the mp3 presentation do to bad preservation. When we got to spot 13 the doores closed on us and we were trappes outside on the jard looking at Drava river. We had to call the reception and it took 10 minutes for a person to come and let us out. And the woman that "saved" us didnt even apologize for it. We just returnwd the headphones and left.
Nothing special to see there.

BACKYARD SUNSET WITH A GLASS OF WINE.... UNFORGETABLE
Aug. 2018 • Business
The recently renewed old monastery unlocks the door to the rich history of Ptuj, the oldest town in Slovenia. It has a conference hall and a inside court and a great backyard where you can oversee the Drava river and valley. It is a special experience if you look up events the monastery is hosting and sip wine while the sun is slowly setting down. endless. And, if you are not a lover of history, statues and old paintings .... its chill inside in summer... so you can just go there and coll your self off. :)

Beware the rear steps - they are DANGEROUS
Sep. 2018 • Couples
Interesting monastery with excellent audio guide (included in price).

Initially it took some persuasion to get in at the concession rate of 2€ (instead of 4€) - I thought it was obvious that we were over 60 but the girl on the desk demanded proof.

Inside the church they have built an auditorium. Everything is in jet black (seats, steps, floor) but as we climbed the steps going towards the raised rear of the auditorium the steps were illuminated. However, the staircase at the rear of the auditorium which turns thru 360deg is DANGEROUS. The area is poorly lit and it’s impossible to see the black steps against the black floor. My wife stumbled and hurt her ankle. In all probability, this was the root cause of her falling the next day. As a result of this she had to go to hospital relocated under general anesthetic.

After the first fall we complained to the receptionist (cashier). Our complaint was met with resignation and disinterest. Clearly others had complained but to no avail. We also mentioned this safety hazard to the Tourist info Office. Apparently, the dark steps problem had been reported over a dozen times but the manager of the Monastery refuses to improve the situation. In my view the Monastery is in breach of basic EU Health and Safety regulations.

So if visiting this monastery, TREAD VERY CAREFULLY and bring a torch - otherwise you too may trip on the rear stairs.

Horrible customer service
Jul. 2018
We were visiting in July with a couple of friends and unfortunately didn't have time to do the tour of this beautiful building. We still wanted to get some information for the future and check out the magnets in their store, so we went inside. Bad idea! When the girl at the front desk asked us if we plan to pay to see the inside and we politely answered that unfortunately we don't have time to do the whole tour, she, without even letting us finish the sentence, asked us to leave. We were so stunned by her rudeness that we didn't know how to respond.
Ptuj is beautiful and definitely worth the visit, but this experience put a bit of a damper on the day. We'll never consider returning to the monastery as long as this employee is still there, or at least until she receives a proper customer service training.

New cultural center was a monastery centuries ago
Aug. 2017 • Couples
No monks, no old ghosts are between old walls. Buildings are Gothic inside (walls, cloisters) and mainly baroque from outside. Big church hall is transformed to a concert hall with very aggressive inner architecture. Before the concert you can walk around the old building. It ahs partly reconstructed walls with frescoes and decorations. One of the hall have some baroque stucco and decorations. Place is one of the best attractions of Ptuj. Take your time, at least an hour. They have an exhibition of contemporary sculptures in the building during the summer season.

Outstanding and attractive monastery is worth to take a look at least from the outside - attractive extrior with rich decoration. It is advisible to take time for the visit as well - some nice halls, corridors, occasional exibitions, seminars...

Well... yeah
Sep. 2016 • Friends
I know how much effort was put into it, it is just not used as good as it could be. Not sure, how to put a congress in it or when one will be, but for exhibitions definitely good. Make more of them and do not hesitate to demand more than 1 EUR for the entrance.
