It's a short trip that take you from top to bottom Nazare cliff. It's totally worth the value (2.90 round trip) as it's more an urban service that a turistic one. But it's great to travel on it!

You have to take this ride to get to Sitio, the town on the falade above Nazare. Get the return ticket, about 4 euros and enjoy the technology, the ride, the people you're with. It really is fun. It was built in the late 1800’s by a follower of Gustave Eiffel, the guy who built the tower. It has been updated and is safe. Check out the lovely chrome hand railings at the top, it is a work of art.…

We stayed down by the beach but we did take the funicular up to see the view from the top. Its an inexpensive ride that is quite quick. At the top there were many vendors and amazing views. A must do when in Nazare.

Either take the funicular up to "upper town" or make the drive, both are worth the time. We went in December so it was not busy at all, but I hear summer can be tough.

We were staying at the top of Nazaré near the funicular station so it made sense to travel on the funicular to visit the beach and town below. If you are staying below, take a ride up for a fantastic view. They come regularly and are not expensive. One of the more modern funiculars we used during our travel in Portugal.
