This is a beautiful, well preserved fortress with a beautiful view of the Iddefjord. Several great restaurants for different budgets including Curtisen which is an amazing culinary experience. This place is a wonderful walk through self guide tour. It is huge! And the history is fascinating to read about. At the end of your day you can visit the cafe for a local craft beer.

Just a few minutes walk from the hotel, is the old fortress of "Fredriksten Festning" With historical preference to the killing of the Swedish king in the war between Norway and Sweden, to the use of the fortress in WW2.

Such a great piece of history. I attended with a family member that told me the history of the fortress, which really helped. But the fortress has some great views of the city below. Definitely worth attending!
