A brilliant free ruin that is well worth a walk and explore around. Kids loved climbing and exploring.

Worth a visit
Jun. 2020
Located just off the main Navan to Trim road these ruins are worth a visit if in the area. There are lots of little places to explore inside the ruins and it seems to be very popular with families who use the surround green areas to picnic. There is a decent size car park to use.

Good day with the kids

Unexpectedly, we enjoyed it more than the Trim Castle. The place is free and very close to Trim castle so for a nice day, we definitely suggest visiting both.

Bective Abbey

Great place to visit, very old, very atmospheric. As it is away from main roads it is seldom packed so great opportunity to wander around and consider the life of the original inhabitants. In very good condition and a super place to take photos. For anyone interested in history or architecture it is a must see.

A Hidden Gem!

Bective Abbey was such a cool place that my friend and I stumbled upon. It is just like a castle ruin that you can explore. It's not super big but if you are in the area it is 100% worth the stop.

Worth the drive
Oct. 2019
Bective Abbey was high on our list of Abbey ruins to see in Ireland however our GPS would not find it. It was also not easy to find on the maps but we persisted and just tried going to the village of Bective to see if we could find the abbey. We were so happy that we finally found it as they are a remarkably intact ruin. It doesn't appear to be high on the list of many people based on how few people were there but we were so glad we saw it. There is a significant portion of the cloister remaining so it made for wonderful photos. Take the time and search out Bective Abbey - it is worth the hunt to find it.

Beautiful

There are many ruins you can visit for free in Ireland, but these are especially beautiful. Don’t miss them if you are in the area.

Fine abbey with nearby a mediaeval bridge
Sep. 2019
Bective Abbey is another atmospheric and serene abbey with a fine cloister and well worth a stroll around. You may well find yourself alone, as I was, to imagine. No toilets, Cistercian 1147 and “daughter house of Mellifont Abbey”. Open 24/7. The Boyne river flows under a mediaeval bridge alongside the abbey. The Abbey was used in the Braveheart movie.

Serene Historical Site

Loved this site. Again, if you are into history then this is a nice place to visit. There is a small car park and you have a short walk to see the ruins. You have full access to the Abbey, or what is left of it. Anyone that has mobility issues will have some difficulty inside the ruins but may be able to tour the outside of the Abbey. This is another Braveheart movie location.

Castle
Oct. 2019 • Friends
The Abbey was known as ‘daughters house’ which was later on rented to someone else. But the fact is walking between those walls you can create your own story. And it’s gorgeous. You can see the style and the way how it was.
