We viewed it from the road and we thought the accompanying house was abandoned. The field in fromt of it seemed looked after. Still we decided not to trespass. Would have been nice to see it up close.

Turf houses and turf out-buildings can still be seen from the main highway along the drive east from Kirkjubaejarklaustur. It is always a joy to see them although many are in disrepair. Like the world over, enjoy the old, marvel in the ingenuity of their...More

We couldn’t see it! That’s in a private property! So you can’t go to see it. Can’t see nothing from the street!!

Really, only to be viewed from a long distance, not worth stopping for. Much better examples around in Iceland for visiting.

It is impressive that these structures still stand today. The concept and application behind the construction is truly and amazing feat, And to see these with the mountains as the back drop is awe inspiring.

Was fascinated by these little hobbit houses! Interesting sight to behold with towering mountains as backdrop!

A short walk from the main road is this small group of turf covered farm buildings, dated back to the 19th century. There is also a tiny turf-covered chapel.

There is a large unfriendly sign and block to the road leading to these saying PRIVATE PROPERTY KEEP OUT. As its in all the tourist books this is a huge disappointment. In all of Iceland there are very few old or original historic sights and...More

When I was there (last October) there was no sign about trespassing, and there were many people there ahead and behind.
