Half way around Iceland and we got to Dettifoss. It was real rainy out so a bit slippery. It was an easy walk to the falls. Because of the rain and all the drizzle even coming from the waterfall itself, we didn't get to spend too much time here. Some of the better pictures of this place comes from the... More

We had some snow storm today while visiting the two waterfalls here...the short hike from the parking lot, about 1km, was in a snow storm, there was only one trail open, but this even gave a more impressive feeling. You feel pretty small as human being. Definitely a must. Only road 862 was open from the south. At this time... More

Powerful and relentless spring to mind when you see this waterfall. Not the biggest but still worth the stop. I can imagine it can get busy but was quiet when we arrived

Dettifoss was awesome. But, beware and bring crampons or good hiking boots. The entire walk (which is about 800 meters) was almost all ice. Also, driving here from Highway 1 is rough. You will most likely want a 4-wheel drive. We went to the west lookout because in winter the east is almost always closed. It looked like they were... More

Spectacular waterfall in stunning scenery. Most visitors go to the viewing platforms on the west side, but the east side is more impressive, and you can get right down to the waters edge.

Dettifoss is amazing. It is away from the main road and requires a bit of walking but when you get there, you will not be disappointed. If waterfalls is your thing, this one is legit.

There are 2 areas to walk to at this falls, and both are amazing. It is a bit of a walk to get to either one, so aim to spend 2-3hours in this area. There are some free restrooms in the parking lot. Then it is a bit of a gravel track to the falls. We were here during Mid-Sept,... More

We tried getting there and the 3 roads were closed, with an AWD. The staff of our hotel told us that one of the guests had to pay the rescue fee since their 4x4 didn't make it. So unless you have a Super Jeep it was not possible still.

Did not actually manage to see the waterfall as the road was closed - late March. Was actually hoping to catch it as it is from the opening scene of the movie, Prometheus. It is Europe's most powerful waterfall. There is an eastbound and westbound way, from readings, the westbound way is paved (whereas the east is not) however this... More
