This Museum is UNFORTUNATELY going to CLOSE down although the material it contains is only one tenth of the what is left in storage. It is one of the most enlightening visits to a museum which contains all the artefacts and original manuscripts of many Greek and French writers. The whole education systme in Greece can be seen through the prism of a visit. The most amazing manuscripts and writings of Aesop's fables were the crown jewel. Our gratitude to Katherina our guide who is passionate about the place and was able to convey all the knowledge to those interested. It was quite an experience to learn the interaction between the French Enlgihtment and its influence on the Greeks. Moreover, the Greeks were inspired by the French moneatry system and they used it. Hence we learn that one franc was equivalent to one drachma. The almost tow hours spent in this museum was worth every minute. It is devasting to learn that this museum is closed due to some property builders. All the material collected, and a lot has never been visible, and donated by a PATRON whose generosity and legacy will be lost.

If you want to step away from the crowds at the Meteora for an hour, step into this small but interesting museum! We got a very enthusiastic tour, explaining about the local school system and providing some insights on daily life in the local area. The visit took around one hour, time we'll spent!

We had a very nice experience looking at all the books that were on display. At the end, the museum's guide
presented us different types of spinning tops and how to spin them, which was really fun. We also learned about the formation of Meteora and about the monks's net/elevator from Meteora.

If you are in Kalambaka you should definitely pay a visit to this little museum. Take a free guided tour in English or Greek with a friendly and knowledgeable staff to get a better context and ask a lot of questions!
We even learned how to write our names in the Greek alphabet. I can imagine that this museum is also a lot of fun for children, as well as for grownups. Highly recommended!

An absolute gem of a museum - any fans of graphic design/print will be delighted by the beautiful and extensive collection of illustrated books they have on display here! A fabulous and informative tour from our guide Katherine, who was funny, engaging and generally sound. We spent ~1.5 hours here and loved every second 🤘

An extensive collection of Greek school texts and school-related artefacts including a little classroom and slate boards that reminded me of my first years in school. Also, some books dated after the Fall of Constantinople, showing how Greek literature began to spread in Europe, and a display case and little room devoted to Aesop's Fables. Some writing implements and a moveable-type printing press complete the private collection that has kindly been opened to the public. Must-see for teachers and anyone interested in education and books. Our guide Katerina had excellent English and was not only knowledgeable but also enthusiastic, with a touch of humour. Added bonus, a video showing how the Meteora rocks were formed, and a 1922 film showing a monk being hoisted up to a monastery in a net. Fortunately for us tourists the monasteries now have steps. (A lot of steps!)

On a year-long trip and was in Kalambaka in November 2021 to see the Meteora and happened upon the Hellenic Culture Museum on a rainy day and decided "why not," and what a home run! I received a private tour from Katerina (hopefully I'm spelling that correctly). Katerina was absolutely wonderful and so knowledgable, engaging, sharp and funny. It's very tempting to just walk the museum solo but the tour is inexpensive and so so so worth it. I walked in expecting to kill an hour and get a little bit of culture and left with a whole different perspective of Greek culture and education and how it connects across the world, and was thoroughly entertained at the same time. What a gift. Thank you, Katerina!
