Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

😮‍💨You can have better views outside the monastery and for free. Greeks don't pay, but foreigners do, even if the monastery is under renovation. From the outside, it may look grand and interesting, but inside, it's very small with only 2 rooms with paintings to see, but they were under remodeling. Nothing out of this world. It's sad that they make you pay entrance because you're a foreigner. What kind of monastery is this?

Incredible to see and visit, just the journey to get to the monastery is spectacular.

Wouldn't say that Saint Nicholas Monastery itself is amazing although still nice to walk around and see the artwork and interior design, view from roof top is also great, but the amazement comes with the how the hell did they build something like this all those years ago.

Like all the monasteries you visit you are in awe that these monasteries-built centuries ago with no hydraulics etc.

This was open later when we were there so we stopped and wow, great views. It is a hike so bring shoes to hike in. Also wear clothes that cover up.

Monastery had decent views from the top. Overall it was a cute monastery and had nice seating space at the base.
Visiting the monastery took 15mins.
It is not very busy here as it is not one of the more popular ones.
If you don't have time, i would skip this one.

But overall it doesn't take a lot of time and can be visited in 45mins.

We visited here in November and our trip was sadly tainted by the overly aggressive member of staff selling tickets, note he was not a monk. The ticket sign is quite low to the ground and the mixture of the climb and making sure legs were covered etc. meant that we both missed it, we trailed in behind around 6 other people, and as none of them were asked for payment (we subsequently realised the staff member was speaking to someone as we entered), we didn't realise he was talking to us (to ask us to buy a ticket) as his conversation finished. His manner was aggressive and very confrontational, although we tried to take account of the language barrier on our part. Interestingly none of the other people who entered when we did were approached in the same manner or requested to buy a ticket.

Of course we weren't going to deliberately not purchase a ticket, but being singled out for an was disconcerting and very unpleasant. I note there were other less favourable reviews here but they seem to have disappeared.....

In summary our trip did not feel particularly religious, a shame as I always like to visit a church or temple and always make a generous donation when visiting. I couldn't wait to leave, although it is a beautiful monastery.

We were staying at the Doupiani House Hotel just a short 10 - 15 min up hill stroll, well worth the effort. This is a small monastery under going renovation so there is not that much to see. However it is worth visiting for the view from the balcony.

We only visited the main one and this one due to its accessibility, and it was really nice to see the old murals.

The W/C has no toilet seat, one stands to do his business--not good. It is also a very tough climb--would not recommend for those not in good shape.

As part on an organised tour of Following the Footsteps of Saint Paul we visited Saint Nicholas Monastery in Kalambaka. What a fantastic experience and so very spiritually uplifting. Beautiful Monastery and some superb views. Well recommended.
