Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We happened to visit Kalavryta on December 13th and this year was the 70th anniversary of the holocaust, although we didn't realise it until we got there. The town was full of vip's milling around and when we got into the museum there was a tour being conducted for them. However we went around after them so allowing us the space and time needed. What an incredibly moving experience, other reviews have already explained what is there in depth so I won't repeat all of that, but I will re-emphasise the importance of visiting places such as this, atrocities like these should never be forgotten and should be learned from. A reminder of how truly awful war can be and how despicable humans can be to others.
Buy one or two of the books and read people's own accounts of what happened leading up to and life after that day, you'll never moan about your life ever again

There is nothing to like. This is called a museum but in reality is a place of remembrance. The school is the place that all men, women and children were gathered and 476 of them were executed in cold blood. How can a new born be a threat to the German occupation is beyond imagination. We visited the school with a member of the Rodopoulou family that was wiped out. It was very emotional. There is always a guide at hand and the explanations are good. But if you are in a good mood don't visit because it will put you on killing mood.

This small but excellent, thought-provoking museum is housed in the old primary school where the inhabitants of Kalavryta were assembled on 13th December 1943.
Segregated, the women, children and elderly were locked in , while the men and teenage boys were led to a nearby site where they were executed by the Nazis.
Their story is told in a dignified, yet unsentimental account. Detailing life in the progressive, prosperous town before the outbreak of WWII, how the area was affected by the war and the events leading up to that devastating day.
The video accounts of some of the survivors, children at the time, are particularly moving, as is the final room where the walls are covered with the names and pictures of the victims.
A stark reminder that we must learn from the past and never let history repeat itself.

This museum about the massacre of December 1943 is amazing. It deals with the very difficult subject matter in an entirely appropriate and moving way. I am not an emotional person, but I was in tears. The sculpture outside is just incredible as is the way that the front door is for ever closed. It is very well worth visiting and should be visited by every politician in the world to stop war.

The exterior of this beautiful building is very nicely maintained where the interior has been renovated. It is very carefully structured and you can have a quick taste of the prewar period which is followed by 3 rooms giving the feeling with a very efficient way
Highly recommended.

Tells the story of a horrific massacre in December 1943 during the German occupation of Greece. In reprisal for activities of the Greek resistance (who were being supplied by the British) the German command summoned the entire village together, razed 600 homes to the ground (homes were mainly built of wood) and executed nearly 600 men and boys over 14 by herding them to a site outside the town and mowing them down with machine guns. The massacre took two hours and the women and children were left to bury the dead. Near Kalavryta is a ski resort so this place is cold in winter. There are videos from eye witnesses playing, some with English subtitles. I don't think you can fail to be moved by the story.

You cant visit Kalavryta and miss seeing this museum. A blend of modern organized displays with all the artifacts of the past and a overwhelming feeling that stays with you after you leave.

Historical Events are worth remembering and this is a very special memory that when you go to Kalavryta is a must vist to remind ourselves how cruel we can be, but this is only a part of this fabulous mountain village, there is much more to be explored here including a fabulous Ski centre, stunning shops with local produce from the mountains including Honey, Pasta made in the vilage, Rose Petals to put on your yogurt and some fabulous hotels.
If you are going to mainland Greece put this destination on your map you will not be disappointed
