Fantastic gallery and building. Really some great masterpieces in here - from Danish Golden Age, Skaagen impressionists and some more recent works, including some paintings from Ribe.

I was there just as the new Danish Golden age exhibition was starting. The characterful gallery is a great setting for pictures of this era, and I particularly liked the portrait of Constantin Hansen by Christen Købke and the little girl writing by Christen Dalsgaard. Also, pictures by Skagen painters like Krøyer and Anna & Michael Ancher. Lovely riverside location,... More

Although we were getting a bit glassy-eyed and foot-weary, we took in the Ribe Kuntsmuseum, the local art museum housed in a handsome Dutch Renaissance mansion built in 1864 for a wealthy cotton manufacturer. He and his family only occupied it for a couple of decades; it became a museum in 1891. By big-city standards, the collection of Danish sculpture... More

This is a good representation of national and regional painters. It has been recently restored and is a great physical facility. We enjoyed that it was a small collection as museums go, and had a good representation of world class painters. The garden outside is an added bonus.

Good examples of Danish painters and a few sculptors. Enjoyed current shows of modern painting and winter themes. Nice way to learn about unknown artists and see scenes of Ribe in earlier periods.

This museum is really nice. The collection is not that large and it is easy to get an overview of the building. the museum has resently been renovated and just the floors in the halls are worth a visit. If it is not raining it is super nice to get a cup of coffee or tea in the garden of... More

It is not a big museum, but if you are in the area and would like to have a glimpse of Danish art, this museum is well worth a visit. Sometimes small museums can be better to visit than the big, crowded ones. The building is in itself remarkable, dating back to 1864 (a very special year in Danish history),... More
