When Sam Walton opened his 5&10 on the Bentonville town square in 1950, he had no idea he'd planted the seeds for what would become the global leader in retail, saving millions of people money so they could live better. Today, that humble little dime store is the location of The Walmart Museum. A family-friendly experience in 3 parts, the Museum features a world-class exhibit gallery, Walton's 5&10, and The Spark Cafe.

We briefly visited The Walmart Museum housed in Sam's original 5-10 cent store on the Bentonville town square. The highlights for me were Sam's old office, his 1979 red Ford pickup truck, his list of five business principles, and the maps showing the explosive growth and location of Walmart stores.

Overview of the start and success of the Walmart empire. Located in the original store adds a bit of charm to the visit.

We really enjoyed browsing through this museum about the Walton family and the beginnings of the Wal-Mart stores. A great example of a successful American businessman. The museum also recalls a simpler time in the United States.

If you are a Walmart shopper you will enjoy the small museum. It is free and the gift shop is especially fun for boomers. Sam Walton was a self-made man and interesting life story.

Had the opportuntiy recently to visit this historic little museum again after many years. It is a great collection of Walmart's history including early ads, shopping cart handles, lapel pins, videos and more with a nice little Spark Shop for your sweet tooth.

Having grown up in Arkansas, Wal Mart is legendary as one of the greatest businesses ever to originate in the state. Several successful businesses that sprouted from the Walton family include Sam's Club, Arvest Bank and Crystal Bridges Museum. The Wal Mart museum in downtown Bentonville tells the full story and tells it well. Videos, exhibits and great retailing of... More

Sam Walton was an incredible businessman with a true vision for retailing and making the world a better place through his vision and ability to focus no out what the public wanted and needed and meeting that challenge through product, pricing, location and all around "smarts". It's hard to believe that the Sam's-WalMart vision started in Bentonville and this adorable,... More
