45 minute boat ride from Aguila de Osa dock, we had to land at the ranger's station beach to check in. Snorkelling was from boat only around rocks where there was a heavy swell, so nowhere to rest if you tire. Not much coral, but...More

This is one of the most magical places on Earth for me. I am the only person who has ever swum completely around it, and it was one of the most blissful experiences of my life. If you are in the Drake Bay Area, do...More

That's the best destination for snorkeling. We saw millions of fish and a lot of turtles. Sometimes we could dive trough the shoal and touch the fish. What a feeling! Great for kids.

We went to Cano Island in February, and the Frigate bird were courtin' and sparkin'! It was Amazing! All these beautiful males with huge bright red neck pouches filled with air to impress the ladies! What a site! We took a tour and snorkeled off...More

The scuba diving, arranged by Pirate Cove / Caño Divers in Drake, was simply excellent! Two dives with Wilson, a funny yet very professional guide, took us to places we never dreamt of. We dove between dozens of sharks, sting rays, manta rays, huge groups...More

The snorkeling was horrible because the government only allowed a certain designated area. There were too many people. Bodies were floating everywhere and we were getting hit with other peoples' fins, right and left. Also, the area we went had too many rocks...it was scary...More

I've not snorkeled before, but had a tremendous experience with my wife and two kids. The variety of sea life was awesome, and it was quite clear. You don't really get to explore the island, but the beach is very nice.

Was thrilling to see the underwater world of Cano Island. We were lucky to see dolphins on the way out. At the island we saw white-tipped reef shark, turtle, spotted ray and lots of beautiful smaller fish. The guide obviously knew his fauna which was...More

It is a tropical paradise. So pretty. However, if you have never snorkeled in a group, be prepared. By rule, you had to stay with the group. That might have been fine with 4 or 5 people, but we have over 12 and it was...More

Diving was expensive, but very beautiful. The lunch included was very nice as well. The first dive was a bit dissapointing, because there was a lot of sand and little fish to see. The seconden dive was amazing! A lot of schools of fish, many...More

We went in the wet/green season (August) and never had the rain stop us from doing anything we wanted. It always rained late in the day. The best strategy is to get up early when it is cooler. (The early sunrise and... More
I will be diving Cano Island off a liveaboard in early January 2017. What is the expected water temperature? Are whale sharks, humpbacks, or mantas common this time of year?

Response from Jovan_10 | Reviewed this property |
My understanding is that the whale sharks and humpbacks will be gone by January. You will see rays and small white tip sharks.
What tour company do you use from the Uvita/Ojochal area and how long is the boat ride?
